• Easy to use and low resource backup monitor

  Pros

  Easy to use. Will monitor data directories for changes so that you aren't redundantly overwriting data each time a backup is created. Will even monitor in real time.

  Cons

  Practically none. I've run into a few little bugs but easily resolved a work around and the support is excellent.

  Summary

  I use this program to backup data from a NAS onto my hard drive. It is extremely useful and simple to setup how you want to automate creating backups. And it is free. Wow!

  Pros

  Simple, fast and despite it currently being a beta, I've experienced no bugs or glitches at all!

  Cons

  I don't want to put lack of features, because thats not really the point - but I guess some people may want more?

  Summary

  I was looking for a backup software to replace the simple backup functionality of windows XP - and this has performed much better that I could have anticipated. I back up much more regularly now that this programme has made it so simple and quick! For the average home user I have not found a better programme, I just hope they don't tinker too much with it and change these core attributes that make it so appealing and differentiate it from the other bulky and complex backup programmes offered on the market!

  Pros

  Very lightweight, easy to use, will backup in realtime, on a predetermined schedule or on demand. I'm running it on 3 different systems - home, job, 2nd job - and it is the last program I open before shutting down, backing up takes seconds even with hundreds of file modifications.

  Cons

  Nothing really - there have been a couple of instances where the program only backed up a few files, but it turned out I had the properties configured wrong. Because this is still in beta you might find issues but so far it has worked well.

  Summary

  I back up a law practice, radio station, and at home using multiple hard drives and all are entrusted to bvckup.

• Great lightweight backup program

  Pros

  I've been using Bvckup now for 10 months and have found it wonderfully reliable without any apparent demand on the CPU. I found Bvckup after trying several expensive backup solutions recommended in various places online. Some were unreliable. Others were unnecessarily complex. All demanded more CPU cycles than I like to give up. IMO any backup program that you notice while using your computer for something else is one that hogs too many resources. This one is perfect. The best feature, fixing a glaring omission in Windows Backup except in the Pro versions, is the ability to backup across a network. The program hasn't crashed once. It hasn't hogged resources once. Every file that I've wanted backed up gets backed up, automatically, invisibly across my home network to a WD Live drive on the network. It simply works, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone with some basic computer knowledge.

  Cons

  Not fancy. That's also a plus. Newbies may have some trouble, as you have to tell it what you want it to do and on what schedule, it won't just set up a one-size-fits all backup of standard data files automatically. Also, it's a work in progress so it may seem a little unfinished in places. But it's rock-solid and surprisingly full featured.

  Summary

  Try it. This is one of those programs that makes you appreciate small developers.

  Easy to use, easy to setup, PORTABLE!

  Cons

  The logging could use some work. For example, the logging should have the date, time, action (delete, add, replace), full path of target. Then, a third or fourth copy of the day's syncs could quickly be propagated to additional backups.

  Summary

  It's doing the trick on my WinXP machine. I recommend this software to everyone who values backups but doesn't want to fiddle with performing them.
