  Pros

  I've used BS1 professional for about 16 years and like this unobtrusive piece of software that sits in the corner without trying to up-sell other services. I also like the "no bells and whistles" approach; other accounts software can be unnecessarily complex. As a painting contractor, I use the 'Time Billing' to track and bill my hours, and 'Inventory' to track material spend and produce yearly reports.

  Cons

  Once you've posted something, the only way to undo it is to post a reverse Invoice or whatever. This is important in multi-user environments to avoid duplication, but cack-handed single users like me need to undo invoices on a regular basis! The software is not going to walk you through accounting concepts, so you need to learn some basic conventions first.

  Pros

  Easy to use, easy to upgrade from one version to another. Time sheet module (as well as the other program parts) fits well into the overall solution. Very small footprint. Report generation is completely adequate for a small service or goods business. I have no problem using it in the United States even though written in Canada. It will comply will all local accounting rules. My CPA is happy with the results it produces at tax time. Trevor's company is very responsive to all issues and is very helpful.

  Cons

  I would like to be able to back out auto-generated AR entries. This is the only area where a neophyte like my self can make a mistake and not be able to fix it without having to post reversals. It would be easier to have this capability before "closing the books" since I suffer from fumble fingers at times.

  Summary

  I would easily recommend this to any type of small business. The ability to generate pdf's and excel spread sheets is highly useful. The free version is good but you will want to have the paid version so you can use all of the features.
