  Summary

  I've played a few other brain games like big brain academy, nintendo's brain age, brain challenge and even signed up for the online brain training game, lumosity. It's become a popular genre and there are many more to choose from. So how does brain spa compare to these? Well, I've been playing the full game everyday for a few months. I like the game but it certainly isn't the best in the genre. I bought it because it can get boring playing the same mini games over and over again, so i wanted a new game to add some variety. Variety and newness keep the brain sharp. Or at least that's what these games tell you. At first i was turned off by the whole format, as some people who play the demo might be. The game takes place in a town done in some old fashioned 1950's style. Each building in the town corresponds to a different mini game. There are two buildings for each category: logic (calculation and comparison), language (word jumbles and categories), perception (identification and comparison), memory (visual and auditory). They are not all available right away though - they have to be unlocked and it takes a while. This is the other problem with the game, in that it doesn't offer a lot of mini games. I felt lumosity and brain challenge had a greater variety of mini games. There is also factory that gives you a daily test, which you can take only once a day and tests you in every category and charts your progress. There is also a mayor who provides you with your highest scores and gives you additional puzzles to unlock. All in all, i would have preferred a more straight forward approach with just menu's but you can't really fault them for trying to be creative. If you play this game enough, you'll see it can become pretty challenging. each mini game will adjust its difficulty according to your performance. i saw this as a welcomed change to other games where you have to choose the difficulty at the onset. My favorites are the logic mini game where you have to match colors and the calculation mini game where you go shopping and have to add up three or four different numbers to match the target amount. Most games that test your calculation just do two numbers. I actually saw progress in my math abilities with this game. But why not go further and do multiplication, division, subtraction? I understand it's just testing logic ability but if a game can improve your everyday math skills, why not? In conclusion a few of the games here are unique and fun but nothing exceptional. If you can find it cheap like i did, and you've tried all the others, it's a worthwhile game. Don't be turned off by the odd choice in presentation. It'll grow on you.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Apr 19, 2011<p/>I've had this game for a couple of years now, and I found I play this pretty regularly. I've also played a lot of puzzle/ brain games over the years and many of them aren't very good in comparison. I would update this game review to give it 4 stars.

  In case you wanted to know why the Headline had nothing, that's because there's nothing worth noting. Honestly don't let the name Brain Spa fool ya, there's nothing special here & after the demo, I couldn't be bothered chasing a full version, simple as that.
