• DO NOT BUY - Product fails to install and no support!

  Use the Free version. It installs. Looked like a good solution. As head of an International IT operation we were interested in evaluatiing this product to include as part of our security stack. Even Kim Komando endorsed it...until the problems started to be reported. She has since pulled her endorsement. And so are we! Purchasing the full license was easy. Got our thank you email and license key quickly. After that however, absolutely no support or service. The product fails to install on Windows 8.1 due to a certificate error on the vendor's site used for license validation. This problem was reported directly to the sales email address, to the support email address and via their online forum. Others have reported the same problem. No response was ever received from any of those forms of contact or the company. Their sales vendor (SendOwl) and Stripe both punted on the refund request. In the end, a month later, we had to request a credit card chargeback.

  Cons

  Nice looking site and free version lures you in to purchase, but the product is clearly not being actively supported. It is being actively marketed. Notice that their posts are over two years old. The product was last updated in October 2013. Beware of the Tweet feed that suggests current activity. A number of the posts are old or are from employees of their social marketing group BiMo Marketing. Turns out BiMo Marketing is also the publisher of the app.

  Summary

  BotRevolt will take your money under the guise of no ads but won't provide support or a working product. They claim "Fast Support - Guaranteed", but they won't respond to any support requests. Don't waste your money or your time on this product!

  Pros

  It blocks known ISP sites by watching their ISP numbers. I know someone will correct me, but you know what I mean. Websites are stored as Numbers, not names. Good idea. NetNanny and others use that method to stop kids from porn site etc etc. Used at Library's and Public sites to stop browsing certain sites. Easy to setup and run. Brainless effort.

  Cons

  I was happy with it until it would stop or slow down my PC for an upload of new or additional numbers to block. I would install it again if it would learn how and could get out of the way and upload only when keyboard activity was nil. I had to unload it. It simply slowed down my little 3GB memory Compaq laptop too much.

  Summary

  Works as advertised. Great idea for protecting the user from bad places on the net. Too bad it slowed me down too much. IHad to uninstal it sadly.

  So far so good and I am fascinated by the descriptions of IP's coming up.

  Cons

  My feeling is that it could be confusing for non-technical users. Some suggestions: Ability to re-size the window. Ability to "remember" last window position on closing. It starts up centre screen.

  After installing the program I could see it working immediately. I run windows 7 64-bit. Program scans my traffic fast

  Does not remove the malware! This program protects your traffic so you have a better chance not to get malware.

  Pros

  The best feature of this product is its outbound protection. After installing I found a number of files were trying to communicate with a server in Russia and Bot revolt was blocking it in real time. Also does a good job preventing access to malware, spyware, scam and spam attack sites.

  Cons

  This software is an improvement of peerblock, and the developers clearly state it on their blog. (http://blog.botrevolt.com/bot-revolt-software-is-based-off-of-peer-block-peer-guardian/) -Free version does not give you ongoing access to their lists.

  I use it with my antivirus and works pretty good. Very active monitoring. You can never have to many security programs

  I've been using Peerblock since it came out a few years ago. and I have to say that there were many problems with the software, It was unstable and it crashed every other day and didn't run on startup. This software is only 4 bucks and you can tell it's a 2013 version of the old software, they fixed majority of the problems that it had. If you read their site they have their own lists that they generate from private and government agencies so you really get the latest protection. I will say they did take some features away but I think for the average PC user they features they do have is perfectly fine.
