Book Hunter for Mac's excellent interface and helpful tutorial make it a good application for sorting and organizing a book collection. As users read more and more on their computers, smartphones, tablets, and with physical books at home, this type of application is becoming more useful.

After downloading and starting up, the free application brings the user into a tutorial, which links to the developer's Web page for more information. This help is not really needed since Book Hunter for Mac is easy to use. The main interface includes noticeable buttons for entering book information and creating separate lists for different types of materials. Clicking on the new book section brings up an additional window where its description and information can be entered. Users can also drag cover images into a window for inclusion, as well as mark the item read, unread, or in the process of being read. An auto-complete button also allows for retrieval of additional information from the Internet. This function works well and returns a number of metadata options for the materials entered, even with limited information. Users also can add borrowed books and ones that they want to purchase in the future.

Book Hunter for Mac works well and should be helpful for almost any level of Mac user.

What’s new in version 1.2

The last version of Hunter Suite fixed a few bugs with Moutain Lion and introduced support to sync with iPhone 5 and iPad 3.

Fast, simple and easy to inventory.

Just what I needed. It's surprisingly fast. Type in the ISBN and the fields are automatically filled in, including book cover image.

Finds most books, using iSight or manually typing the ISBN.

Gotta work with it to find the various plug-ins.

I was going to give this software a "no stars" because I couldn't export a .csv or a .pdf export with pics. You have to go to the "options" for the .pdf preferences, and you MUST download the add-ons from the plug-in manager under "advanced". Thanks, just what I was looking for!

I have a Mac 10.5.8 and the program says it is not for this version. I really wanted to see if I could use it for my classroom library. Oh, well.

It barcode scanned my library with ease using the Mac!!

Ease of use. Fantastic value (donation). Intuitive interface. Uses Mac camera to barcode scan and automatically display info plus cover art if available. Otherwise just type title for it to search on line data base.
Cons
Cant find any.

Easy to use, fantastic value and no need to buy a separate barcode scanner.
This software is impressive and exactly what I needed.

*Advantage of "groups" feature is hard to pinpoint *Autocomplete doesn't always have the older editions of books (but you can fill it in yourself easily so this is not really a big deal)
Summary
Book Hunter is very easy to use and well laid out. Adding new books is made especially easy by the iSight scanning feature. I just wave the book in front of the iSight and it finds the book's information for me. You can choose from 24 information fields (everything from the title and ISBN number to the location, collection, and date acquired). There is a section for tracking who has your books in case you lend them to anyone. The options for viewing your books are the same as the music library in iTunes. (Searching works the same way, as well.) All in all it is a wonderfully designed piece of software and is exactly what I needed.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />The program is nice looking, fields for all of the information I would like to store. One major problem though with this version is that the autocomplete does not work. No matter what ISBN you insert, you come up with the same results, which are wrong. I was hoping to use this to easily keep track of my extensive library of hobby reference books without having to manually add all of the information. I'll keep an eye out on this program, but right now, it needs the automcomplete fixed.
