BitComet is best known for its torrent-downloading program, but this FLV player is not a bad entry into that field, either. It's not going to blow your socks off, though, and because its layout is too sparse to easily manage, you might want to look elsewhere unless you're a die-hard BitComet fan.

The program loads to a black screen with a simple Play button in the lower left corner, and a counter and volume control in the lower right. On the menubar, File gives you access to a URL loader for directly playing FLVs from the Web, View lets you double or triple the size of the window, and Options controls file associations and languages packs. A fourth category, More FLV, provides FLV-managing instructions posted on the BitComet forums.

Although most FLV players tend to err on the side of fewer rather than more features, the BitComet player is too light in this regard. Without even the ability to loop the video, we'd like to see more features added before using it again.

There is nothing good about this program. I'm putting CONS in here instead since I ran out of room in CONS: * The program cannot be uninstalled * The program executable cannot be found, I searched through my hard drive and I cannot find it.

* The program does not do anything, it just says "upload flash version" even though I have the current versn * There is no help feature, just a link to a forum, where people have unanswered posts trying to figure out how to get the program to work

Do not install this program. You will not be able to uninstall it. Since it doesn't work, and there is no help from the manufacturer, and I can't uninstall it, how do I know this is a legitimate program? How do I know it ISN'T spyware, or performs some other nefarious activity? I downloaded this program based on the CNET review score, which I now find completely suspect. How could someone in good conscience give a good review to a program with no help feature and that cannot be uninstalled, even if it did work for them as intended?<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Sep 15, 2009<p/>I have to update that I did find the file cached in my Temporary Internet Files folder. It is a standalone .exe, which is why there is no installation. I have no idea if it writes anything to the registry. I still don't trust this program and I will avoid programs by BitComet in the future.

Seems a good, responsive player, at FIRST, but I'm not even going to get into the features, as it has a MAJOR CRASH-LIKE BUG that simply isn't worth risking using for...

At any random point during the play of a .flv file, the player is POTENTIALLY liable to freeze, seemingly 'choke' the video device driver (a 'thread' gets stuck or something...) and shut down your video card, and consequently your monitor!!! This has happened several times, and I have been forced to power off my computer - losing all my open files; as I couldn't see anything, with my monitor suicided.<p>Just not worth a risk like this - for me anyway.
