Awesome 680x0 Macintosh Emulator!
Masmer32- Pros
- Run almost all 68k-based Mac software Ethernet and AppleTalk networking Runs up to Mac OS 8.1 Full screen or in a window Ports for Windows/Linux/Mac OS/BeOS/AmigaOS 20+ faster than a real 68k Mac Built-in host file system access from within guest OS
- Cons
- Need a 68030 or 68040 ROM dump Need an appropriate Mac OS Somewhat difficult for a n00b to setup, but there are a number of websites for assistance. Does not run PowerMac OSes or software. Check out SheepShaver or PearPC for that.
- Summary
- I have been using Basilisk II since 1999. It is truly magic to see a Mac OS boot up with all my favorite extensions/control panels and to run my older Mac software and games. Others and I have supported and encouraged people new to Basilisk II with tutorials and by answering questions. Basilisk II was my obsession for quite a while.
Couldn't get it working
OJB- Pros
- Cannot tell at this point.
- Cons
- Doesn't launch.
- Summary
- I couldn't get this to launch. I did get an alternative program, Sheepshaver, set up and running with a bit of configuration. Not sure what I did wrong with Basilisk but since I have SS running now I have no need to persist with it.
Excellent!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
As far as emulators go, this is a solid solution for running old Mac programs on later systems. Two problems really remain; sound support (which is supposedly the next goal of the programmer) and the ability to adjust monitor settings. -I assume that perfecting the interface comes last on the to-do list.
Finally !!!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
V.17 runs here on 10.3.9 !!! With OS8.1 and Quadra 605 ROM (1Mb) emulating a Quara 900 !!! I'm so happy ... Now time to try it on Tiger (not yet). For those interested, I think V.08 already ran on Panther as I did it with success, but long time ago. Go for it, make some settings (like increase available RAM size), and enjoy.
Horrible...

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
dont know where ti start with the things that dont work..... installed 7.6 on my fake mac, so far so good, restart, CRASH relaunched the app, start my fake quadra, CRASH trashed the disk image, reinstalled 7.6, it works, try to set the extentions, restart, CRASH again relaunched the app, start my quadra, flashing question mark... and another thing that would be nice if the power down and force reset would actually work... hope next update brings ALOT of bugfixes...
I love it

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Very nice to be able to run old stuff in older system environments, even when it is just for nostalgic reasons. Not everything works yet (like sound), but I can run System 7.5.5 and MacOS 8.1 with a Quadra ROM file and I love it. Since I switched to my G4 PowerBook with OSX 10.3.x, I couldn't use the newer versions of Basilisk II anymore, only a black screen was displayed. Now, with version 16, there are two versions, a 'normal' version 16 and a 'classic' version 16. The 'normal' version still has the black screen problem on my PowerBook, but the 'classic' version works fine. The download link here points to the 'normal' version. For the 'classic' version, go to the developers page.
Pity...

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Utterly fails to work at all. Seemed as if it was about to a couple of times, but just unexpectedly quit. Repeatedly. Or else it just sits there unable even to get to a flashing question mark.

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
joker351: Basilisk allows people to run old software which won't work under classic. This is particularly useful when it comes to running ancient 68k apps,
