  If you are 54 years old like me, and really really miss the sound of the old typewriters you grew up with THIS IS YOUR BEST OPTION, BELIEVE ME! Yes. Alpha is the most expensive one, but, after TESTING almost all of the optiosns out there, Alpha is the most expensive but IT'S WORTH IT!

I also collect antique typewriters as a hobby. I love this unobtrusive little computer enhancement. It provides useful audible feedback when typing, and it allows users to configure each key to the exact sound of their choosing. You can also adjust the volume of the keyboard w/o effecting the general volume setting of you mac. As someone who cares very much about writing, I find that hearing keys typed, hearing them the way I want to hear them, is enjoyable and helps me to avoid common errors such as the accidental double typing of keys. Those who have grown up with junky plastic rectangular typing boxes probably don't appreciate Typewriter Keyboard immediately. If, on the other hand, you first learned to type on a real typewriter, then you know that some advantages are lost with the march of progress. This application bridges the gap, returning to us a few of the niceties and charm inherent in the iconic writing machines of yesteryear. By the way, if you've never used a mechanical typewriter, or haven't used one in decades, it's a fascinating experience. Remember, those were the machines with which Mark Twain, Hemmingway, Kerouac and 99% of the world's great writers recorded their words. Just try to type on a real typewriter â?? you'll discover how amazingly strong writer's fingers were back then! Kind of makes you wonder what else has been lost, what else is weaker today. Ignore the naysayers. Typewriter Keyboard Rocks! 5 Stars.

The execution is decent enough, I just have a hard time justifying shelling out just over $18 US on what amounts to a novelty application. I'm not a cheap guy, or one who often complains about price, but a corresponding novelty price point (say, 5 bucks?) would likely earn a lot more registered users for what is otherwise a neat little app.

Major quirk is that occasionally a key will go momentarily silent, doesn't seem to be an obvious pattern to this. Still, all in all, this is a fun utility to have.

I would like it better if it had an option to only play sounds when the keyboard keys are actually being used to enter text, rather than indiscriminately in any context. I don't necessarily want to hear typewriter sounds when I'm entering a command key combo or selecting a tool in Photoshop. At the very least, I would like to be able to define a list of apps that sounds are played in. Surely that's not asking too much?

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br /> i downloaded this with low expectations, knowing this developer's been cited for a lot of bad behavior including writing lavish five-star VT reviews of all his own software and selling software that duplicates functionality already available for free in the OS, but i have to say i really like Typewriter Keyboard. someone's said its functionality is available in the OS by going System Preferences... -&gt; Universal Access -&gt; Keyboard and turning on Slow Keys and "Use key click sounds" and setting the key repeat rate to short, but TK has several advantages over that method, IMO, to wit: - it doesn't affect the key repeat rate you've set in your Keyboard &amp; Mouse prefs pane (which Slow Keys does) - it makes cute, appropriate sounds when you hit a "carriage return" (the Return key), which Slow Keys doesn't - i just think it sounds a lot better than Slow Keys; it sounds like a real typewriter, which Slow Keys doesn't (i think because Slow Keys puts the emphasis on the sound of the typewriter's keys going up and down, whereas TK puts it on the sound of the key faces striking the platen). say what you will about this developer (and i understand there's a lot to say - see the reviews of Safari Task Bar here on VT for examples of what i'm talking about), this is a cool little piece of software (again, the opinions expressed herein are the opinions of this reviewer and do not necessarily reflect in any way anything else in the whole wide world :).
