This hefty simulation program helps users practice their bartending skills, but it's light on assistance. BarSim's interactive interface is designed to look like a real bar, with liquor cabinets, a glass rack, recipes, and ticket windows. It gives you all the tools and ingredients you'll need to prepare drinks. Once in the bar area, your drink knowledge is tested as you'll have to prepare drinks listed in the ticket window. If you don't know the recipe, you can click on the recipe window, but it will cost you some points.

Though BarSim is easy enough to understand, a tutorial on the different elements of the bar would have lessened the learning curve, especially for bartending novices. It provides three difficulty levels and 150 drinks to choose from. It also has a recipe editor that allows you to create, modify, and print drink recipes. The graphics and sounds are acceptable by today's standards. BarSim only permits a three-day trial period, which is stingy for our tastes, and bartending tips, trivia, and lessons are not available during the trial. The 25MB file size isn't great either. Despite those issues, bartenders of all skill levels will say "Cheers" to this fun, challenging drink simulation game.

Would be great software BUT...

This IS a great little program. You CAN change the drink recipes if they are not the recipe you want to practice remembering. It's easy to configure, and enjoyable to play. It's a game that helps you create a memory of drink recipes.
Cons
HUGE CON: If your hard drive crashes, you have to buy it AGAIN because it MUST BE UN-REGISTERED (different from un-installed and you do it when the program starts up) from the hard drive you have it installed on BEFORE you can install it on a different hard drive. It goes without saying, this is also something you would not think of doing before you re-install Windows on your machine. Then when you go to re-install BarSim, it won't install... because it "phones home" upon installation and will think see still running on your old (now dead) Windows installation (because it was not UN- Registered. THIS is the ONLY Con I have about the program. And it's a MAJOR one.
Summary
I had to purchase this program twice because my hard drive bit the dust and I had no way of proving to the BarSim tech support (yes, they do -DID- exist) that the program was no longer running and I just needed a new Code for it. The second time, I re-installed Windows, forgetting about Un-Registering the program beforehand. Much as I like this program, I said "forget it" and that was the end of BarSim on my computer. I contacted them, however, and they said they were no longer licensing the program out so there was nothing they could do any longer. In effect, this program no longer exists as a running program.
Even one star is too many for these guys

Absolutely awful customer support. I paid for the software and expected a verification code emailed to me in 24 hrs, I never received it. I emailed their support team and never got a reply, so I requested a refund from their PayPal.

The drink recipes are not what you would ideally serve in a bar. For example, the bloody mary had only vodka and bloody mary mix. Can you imagine how awful a drink would taste if it were served that way at a bar? A REAL bloody mary should have tabasco sauce, worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, tomato juice, fresh squeezed lemon juice, and the rim should be garnished with celery salt. And even then you can add on to that recipe to make an oustanding bloody mary. I hope no one uses this as a basis for their recipes.
