• Good interface but at all it is just buggy.

  Interface. Rich set of options for backups (in pro version).

  Cons

  Many serious bugs at version 5. Weak customer service. Expensive (standard edition does not include basic backup options like incremental backup, you have to go for the pro version).

  Summary

  I had been using Backup4all since its 2nd version, until version 5. The 5th version have never been stable although more than a year passed since its release. I am just a simple user, but found numerous bugs, reported most of them via mail and the integrated reporting tool, but customer service is very weak, almost none of them are resolved. Some of the bugs are very serious which may lead you to lose your backup content (lost my files), as the program uses a error prone catalog file. Catalog test functionality is also very basic and not adequate. Even if you test the catalog by integrated test option and the program says "everything is ok", your backup set may have been malfunctioned to a degree that you can not restore your files! You will not be able to be aware of this catastrophic situation until you try to restore your files... I uninstalled Backup4all and switched to an open source backup program which has less functionality but reliable it seems at least.

  Pros

  Lots of useful options, attractive interface, ability to create different types of backups using different backup destinations. Options to encrypt and password protect (or not), can compress in zip format (or not).

  Cons

  Backup options are too similarly named. Performance is lacking. Took several hours to get to 16%, then never made it any farther.

  Summary

  It has an attractive user interface, and highly customizable options for backups. You can backup to external removable media, network drive, external drive. As mentioned above, options are too similarly named (Full and Mirror backup seem to mean the same thing, had to read the manual to figure out the difference). My backup only made it as far as 16%, then stopped without error. I was unable to kill it with any of the usual options (including the program's stop and cancel buttons), closing the program and ctrl+alt+del wouldn't work. I ended up having to hard reset my computer. I couldn't find anything on the company's website to troubleshoot the problem, so I uninstalled. Not recommended.
