This narrowly focused audio-conversion utility handles its single job without incident, but does nothing else. As you're likely to guess, AudioAlchemy WAV Edition simply turns compressed music files back into WAVs. This utility can convert files from a wide variety of popular audio types, but its real problem is it only supports one output format, especially considering many of its competitors are much more versatile. The nonresizable interface has a rather bland design, but we do appreciate the ability to simply drag tracks into the main window. Audio Alchemy WAV Edition does let you select the bit rate and audio frequency of your new files, but you won't find any extra features to speak of. In particular, a CD-ripping tool would be welcome, considering that converting compressed files back to WAVs doesn't appreciably improve their sound quality. This program may suit those who need to work with WAV files, but an application that supports a larger number of output codecs may be a better all-around solution.
