If you believe the philosopher Plato, Atlantis was once the richest and most technologically advanced island in the world, and it's navy made it a force to be reckoned with. Its ruler was Atlas, the mortal son of Poseidon. That's how the island got its name - Atlantis means 'Island of Atlas'.

According to legend, Atlantis' downfall was when it fell out of favor with the gods. As punishment for their cockiness and insatiable lust for power, the gods doomed the citizens of Atlantis with the demise of their island empire. But where on the ocean floor IS the sunken city of Atlantis. We've found it - in this fantastic screen saver.
