  Pros

  AltDesk is very easy to use, it's fast and efficient. I especially like being able to move windows from one desktop to another with no hassle whatever.

  Cons

  I've been using AltDesk for quite some time and have never had a problem with it, i.e. I can't really find any "cons."

  Summary

  Out of curiosity, I have been looking at other VDMs recently. I've tried about a dozen or so others that were touted as being "the best" or "wonderful." The only other one that even comes close to the versatility and ease of use is goScreen. Both AltDesk and goScreen have the three most important virtues. Namely, they are easy to use, fast and efficient. Most of the others I tried were clunky, resource hungry and less than intuitive. Will I switch to goScreen? I can't say yet but I have noticed that once or twice goScreen's control panel, activated by moving the mouse cursor to one edge of the desktop, seemed to stall. It has some nice transition effects (fast and smooth) but that's just icing on the cake. What matters to me is simply being able to switch between desktops quickly and reliably and to move windows from one desktop to another. AltDesk does it all and does it extremely well. I recommend it very highly!

  Pros

  I did not test the application. After installation, I got a "register now or later" nag screen and immediately uninstalled.

  Cons

  It's not free. From the website: "Download AltDesk now and try a fully functional version for 30 days before purchasing."

  Pros

  This software lets you have multiple virtual desktops (I typically use 8 but if you want more or less, you can easily customize this program). This is a great linux feature now available for windows user.

  Software runs well even on slow hardware and provides a pleasant change of pace from the run-of-the-mill Windows Desktop. Allows a surprising range of options in an easy to use interface.

  Cons

  Does not do enough of what it does do! By supporting older hardware, some of the newer bells-and-whistles are simply not available, as they are in the product made by, for example, www stardock com.<p>Also, for the price, you can do better with a composite product such as TuneUp Utilties, which includes a basic screen styling component as well as top notch utilities everybody should have..

• Powerful flexibility to fit anyone's workflow

  Pros

  AltDesk is the only desktop windowing program I know of that gives the flexibility to fit people of very different workflows. Most force you to work the way the programmer works. Lots of skins, lots of format options, customize any desktop separately, use hotkeys and nav buttons with abandon.

  Cons

  All that power sometimes allows you to do something stupid, like forwarding a window into an invisible place. Not so fond of the default skins, though finding one I like was easy, and I wish I could shrink the navigation buttons more.

  Try this one! Altdesk does not clutter up your taskbar, it does not make noises when switching desktops, it does not blink, honk, pop-up, reconfigure windows, start wizards or anything like this. It has no screenshot function or time planner or note book built in. It's just there, it's slim and it works very stable (I use WinXP.) Altdesk is the WinAmp 2.9 among the virtual desktops (and it's skinable too!) Nothing too fancy, but an excellent compromise between functionality, simplicity and fanciness.
