Despite all the flashy effects available on modern PCs, the simplest functions sometimes remain the most elegant. AJScreensaver does nothing more than display the current time as a screensaver, but provides 14 clock designs to give the desktop some flair. We were particularly taken with a digital clock done in a handwritten script. There are few options to the program--all a user can do is select a clock or choose to display a random design. We would like to see a few more features, such as the ability to make the clocks tick, but the software does the simple task it promises quite well.

I chose the Roman Numeral analog clock and it looked realistic. Some of the art deco and cartoon and ultra-modern clocks I didn't care for. I wish the clock I chose came with a transparent background. Someone, somewhere, who loves clocks, is someday going to create a chiming pendulum wallclock screensaver (like the Regulator school clocks) that chimes on the hour and half-hour, and tick-tocks. I'll be first in line.
