Like A-PDF's merging utility, this application performs only one simple job, but it does so with great speed. True to its name, the space-efficient A-PDF Splitter lets you slice large PDFs into smaller portions. The bland interface is all business, but since it walks you through the splitting process, most users will be able to operate it with ease. You simply load a PDF and specify the split points, and the application rapidly does its thing.

However, don't look to A-PDF Splitter if you want extra features; it omits even such basics as a viewing tool. The demo places a nag screen on the output files, but it's small and almost unnoticeable. Our bigger concern was the program ran out of memory when splitting a large PDF file (though our computer had 512MB RAM and 10GB of free space on the system disk). At $27, A-PDF Splitter is a bit expensive for what it does, so test it thoroughly before you buy.
