• Bloatware. Spyware. Won't load if you don't accept.

  ZERO. This program needs to be REMOVED from download.com

  Cons

  When installing, it asks if it can install bloatware on two occasions. You need to click SKIP on each. But when you do and try to open the program, it errors by telling you it "needs a higher elevation" whatever that means. I am running Windows 7 with latest updates.

• POISON. AVOID at all costs!

  Pros

  None - this download loaded the computer with a Browser Hijacker and several toolbars in spite of my unclicking them before the download. I assume the rave review was written by the perpetrator.

  Cons

  Did not work and took a day and a half of running anti-malware to remove it all. If you have downloaded this and are experiencing the problem of having your home page changed, remove this software and every PUP file and program you find was added at the same time after rebooting in SafeMode with Networking and then run a System Restore.

  Summary

  Worse than a waste of time. Poisonous.

• Finally! A VPN thats easy, works and IS FREE!!

  Pros

  I've tried all the VPN software available and it seems if its free its incredibly complicated or if its easy you have to pay a monthly subscription or (my favorite) is the one thats actually easy and free BUT the VPN is ad supported and you have to agree to ads being injected in your browser to use it SO its a privacy software that the very people you are trying to get privacy from control it. Sheesh! Luckily I stumbled on this gem. It was a quick download and easy install. Now I did have a few issues getting it to connect on my new Windows 8 laptop (Imagine that! the secret I'll put under "Cons" below) but on my good old Windows XP SP3 workhorse PC it started right up and connected immediately! From there went to several different IP check websites, many that can see through a proxy to your real IP but none of these could. All the saw was my VPN IP from Chicago. (You can pick an American IP, a Canadian IP or a British IP)

  Cons

  A bit of trouble connecting to the VPN on Windows 8 but VERY friendly and knowledgeable customer support (probably because it was the owner and creator that answered my questions directly! LOL) and through a series of trial and error this is how I got it to work: Here at CNET you will down load Taoist VPN 2. You need to go to their website http://smartpcsoft.com and download Taoist VPN version 1. I have no idea what the differences are. Before install go to the .exe file and right click it for "properties" and click "run as administrator" then go under the permissions tab and give the Administrator full permissions (check all the boxes) then "apply" or "save" THEN double click to install it. From there on works like a dream!

  Summary

  This is THE VPN software everyone is looking for. Its easy, it works and its free. I'm actually hesitant to tell everyone how great it is because it seems like every time a little awesome software gets discovered by people suddenly it has ads or they start charging or there's some big update and it doesn't work anymore but here's hoping this stays just as it is. But if not at least we got now so get it while its AWESOME!
