  I really do not have enough words to write in this program's favor. Side Slide is one of the BEST programs I have ever used till date. And it probably is one of the most useful programs EVER written (I kid you not, try it and judge for yourself). It is basically a launcher for programs, folders, documents, web links and commands. You can also maintain notes, reminders and RSS Feeds. It has a main container and you can define sub containers within the main one. You can add whatever you want in the sub containers-links, shortcuts,documents etc. The main container is hidden and can be docked on any side. It appears when you hover your mouse along the edge of the screen where it is docked. Everything is customizable; container sizes, colors, text, background etc. And all this sits pretty hidden from you appearing as and when needed giving you a much cleaner desktop. I did find the program a little buggy though and sorting is not at all user friendly. Moreover, it would be great if a folder can be drilled all the way down to the last level. Hopefully these will come up in future releases. Nonetheless, Side Slide is an extremely useful program for organizing all frequently used items at a very customizable and convenient location and almost everyone will find a use for it. Just ensure you go through the tutorial once.

  Pros

  Organize icons into different windows that park at the corners of your screen and hide themselves. Handy!

  Cons

  Doesn't look very professional. Can't turn a folder into one of the "containers" and therefore drag-n-drop onto it as if it were a normal open folder. Doesn't sort things nicely. Asks me if I want to delete an icon every time I try to drop it onto one of the containers.

  Summary

  Fences looks nicer and organizes things better. But if SideSlide would let you turn a folder into a container and park it on the side of the screen, it would be worth it.

• Outstanding and Free!

  Pros

  I was able to make a detached slide out "menu" or notes on the side no matter what program I am using and it is so slim that it is not noticeable at all. Very customizable.

  Cons

  None so far.

  Summary

  I like grouping links to programs, directories, docs, and web URLs such a writing tools with my articles, dictionaries, thesauruses, text editors, and ideas to have handy on the side regardless of what program I am using. It is everything I wanted in desktop organizing and more.

  Customizable, easy to use, flexible, includes container templates so I can create a container for shortcuts, folders, lists, notes, etc. very easily.

  Cons

  I would like a delay added to the slide so when I accidentally touch the bar, the container doesn't slide out unless I stay on the slide a little longer. This would eliminate most inadvertent openings.

  Pros

  With SideSlide you can create a place for all your most-used computer items so they are easy to access: files, folders, notes, shortcuts. It is easy to install and easy to use. You can also customize the colors and the location of the slide bar.

  Cons

  I would like it for my Win 7 computer. It currently states that Win XP is supported, but not Win 7.

  Summary

  Highly Recommend for organizing and creating easy access to frequently used items.

  You can let tour desktop as clean as you like, and find everything you took away one click beyond.

  Cons

  To me, it ended as a complicated bunch of repositories hard to understand and time consuning to maintain.

  Summary

  Maybe, if yuo have a great deal of shortcuts on your desk, and you have time to make a serious reoganization, and you don't expect too much changes in the nearby future, it can be an appropriate tool for you. Otherwise, I'd look somwhere else.
