Manage files and perform related operations with a multi-threaded user interface.
Directory Opus (64-bit)) is a file manager and Explorer Replacement for Windows. Opus is designed to be as efficient as possible. The entire program makes use of multi-threading to ensure that you should never have to wait for one operation to complete before beginning another. As an Explorer Replacement it's important that Opus appears (to the system) just like Explorer does. Within the limits set by Microsoft, Opus achieves this and most software written with only Explorer in mind will still work fine with Opus installed.
Lots of customization options including
adding programmable buttons
changing view options.
Great search and renaming tools.
Easy to transfer all settings to another computer.
Cons
sometimes overly complex UI and Preferences
Summary
I love using this program which makes it very easy for me to batch rename and search with the built in tools. I can easily save searches I've run and batch rename sequences. It's a very powerful tool. I think its only downfall is that if you are not ambitious about using its features or don't have the need, you may find it difficult to like. There are other browsers which use tabbed features and dual pane viewing, etc.
I haven't tested many of the other file managers lately to see if they have all the same functionality, because this program was already purchased for me at work. I can't speak for much comparison.
Better than Windows

Pros
Before installing DOpus, my XP system would slow down and crash regularly. After installation I haven't had any more crashes. Works great on Win7. 60 day free demo with all the bells and whistles.
Cons
Has so many features and applications included that I don't even know what most of them are.
Summary
It costs a bit but the 60 day free demo with all the bells and whistles makes it worth trying and buying. I first encountered DOpus in the 1990s when it was an Amiga program. When the Amiga became extinct it was ported to Windows but I didn't pay any attention to it until XP started to have problems with slowdowns and crashes. After installing DOpus there have been no more crashes. Most of its common features are intuitional. It will replace many Windows and third party programs you already use, make the jobs easier and save money in the long run. I'd give it 25 stars if I could. You deserve this.
The Perfect File Manager
tdaso
Pros
Everything you would possibly dream in a file manager (multi column/row file & folder display - rar & zip plugins - excel & word plugins - image viewer & converter - jump & group listing - tabs etc.) in an incredibly customizable wrap.
Cons
Nothing at all - some may find the learning curve as steep, but it works right out of the box and you must take your time to explore all the possibilities.
Do not let the price fool you - it is actually cheap for what it offers.
Summary
There are possibly 5 programs that I install in every PC I buy or use and this is the first one in the list - I simply cannot live without Directory Opus and to say that it puts windows explorer to shame is an understatemnt.
Why has it taken me this long to hear about this?
thelonius
Pros
Powerful. Great user interface. Flexible.
Cons
For the money, no downside. But the power and flexibility mean I'll have a learning curve to take advantage of all the functionality.
Summary
Why isn't this product more widely known? I only just heard about it on an obscure website dedicated to image processing ...
Invaluable if you are using Win7 on a large network.
mrbarrel
Pros
Avoids the Green Ribbon Of Death in Win7.
Cons
None found yet.
Summary
I have had this installed for one hour and it has already paid for itself in speed and convenience.
One of the systems I manage is a large remote directory structure that is managed through the copying and editing of hundreds of text files. Win7 Explorer, even with most of its features disabled would still spend minutes collecting who-knows-what information from files - especially in directories where files often changed. DOpus's response is pretty much instantaneous.
You will not use windows explorer after using this
stuckindos
Pros
Tool bars galore. Customization galactic.
Cons
Can be a steep learning curve. Not for the timid or faint of heart.
Summary
If your a geek then you can not live without this.
Put everything you could possibly do in one console.
stuckindos
Pros
File compression/management, the absolute in managing any and all file types and applications.
Cons
It does not completely replace windows. Maybe someday.
Summary
A great OS replacement! Who needs Win 7?

Pros
Whatever you need, DOpus delivers!
Cons
I'll probably never figure out or need everything it can do.
Summary
In 1990 I started with Amigas, the first platform DOpus served and I used DOpus for years before it and I were ported to Windows. After being annoyed by the general inadequacies (compared to Amiga OS) of Windows OSs for many years, I recently upgraded to a 64 bit system and XP X64 Pro, Windows began to crash several time a day.
Then I remembered DOpus and looked it up, reading as many reviews as I could find. I decided to try it again. I downloaded it for the 60 day trial, the longest commercial trial period I've ever seen. Even with a 60 day trial, I decided to buy it in less than a week. I haven't had a crash since installing it.
It has such low overhead as a replacement OS that it is extremely fast and just doesn't seem to want to crash any more.
I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Try it.
Terrific full-featured sub for Windows Express

Pros
Variety of multi-column display possibilities makes it extremely useful. Have found it a good value for the money.
Cons
This is only minor, but I would like to have the check boxes that enable you to select a file without opening it when you don't want to.
