AbleWord is a very capable word processing application that can read and write most popular document formats including PDF's.It is fully featured, supporting image formatting, tables, headers & footers and includes spell checking and print preview functions. Best of all it is totally free even for commercial use.
Imported PDF with no problem, edited, and saved in PDF format. Free for commercial use which I needed to just do my job. This program is simple, but has lots of additional options to export in different formats if needed.
Cons

Summary
Just used AbleWord to edit and save a PDF - amazing.

Pros
Easy to install, worked like a charm to edit text and save as PDF.
It's just like typing in a word processing document. Nice!
Very impressed.
(After looking at lots of reviews, 2nd choice would have been PDFedit.cz, but haven't tried it yet.)
Cons
None found so far (first use only).
Summary

Updated on May 10, 2015
Having now re-edited the PDF I saved, AbleWord seems to have confused what areas to allow me to type in - a bit of a shame - it was doing so well. Easy enough to "insert text frame", but a shame it can't carry on seeing the frames that were in the original.
Neat little program

Pros
Dead easy to use. Clear GUI, lots of features, reliable and has decent help files. Think even my gramma could use it!
Cons
Doesn't automatically spell-check as you type (but does at the click of a button)
Summary
I've found this to be a pleasant little programme to use. It has enough features for me, a casual user/part-time author but I particularly love being able to open and edit pdf files. I've found it really reliable and user-friendly.
