  Okay, first off, it ain't just one tool, there are FOUR! <p> ~~~ <p> <p>DVDaudio - Seems to combine various high quality studio normalization tricks. I'm using it on ALL my current and future DVD conversions to DivX. Soundwise, I don't think it can be beaten on fidelity. I converted my 48 kHz AC3 to WAV using ac3dec and processed it straight off with DVDaudio, without resampling to a lower resolution. How many other movie tools can boast the same? It's extremely useful. <p> ~~~ <p> <p>MGvolumizer - Obviously the cream of the crop. I have to admit, according to the other reviews, I was skeptical. I mean, how can software beat hardware? Not everyone has a full scale mastering studio at home, myself included. However, judging by the results, MGvolumizer has been giving nothing short of perfection on every track (so far). I'm very pleased with MGvolumizer! <p> ~~~ <p> <p>RMSdoctor - I reckon I'm just like any standard home user. This means I make my own music CDs from my downloaded files, etc. for parties and in the car. Neither Sony's ACID nor their SoundForge has this unique ability to make all the tracks apparently equal in loudness. In just 2 minutes all the tracks on my compilation list were boosted to an overall RMS of -8 dB... Louder than the industry standard 10... Without clipping or pumping. <p> ~~~ <p> <p>SpeedCompress - Maybe this was thrown into the package to make the other three look much better? Sure, it works. Sure, it does the job better than my other audio editing software's compressor. All I can say here for the average user is: Don't push the levels up too high! For a standard dynamics processor, it's cool enough. I'm vearing towards MGvolumizer. <p> ~~~ <p> <p>For under 40 bucks it's the best ever!

  Pros

  Defintely a 5-star rating from me. Who cares if it doesn't support MP3s? It's a professional sound engineer's studio mastering suite. I've been doing audio for years and not once was I ever asked by a paying client to sort out an MP3!!! This software does exactly as it promises on the box, no arguments, no IFs, no BUTs. Just out of interest, I compared it to my 3630 hardware (the Alesis compressor, for those who don't know its power) on some classical music. I know, dynamics aren't meant to be squashed in classicals, but this was purely scientific! MGvolumizer far outperformed the rackmount. Incredible, but true. So I gave them both a little Sting (he's always as punchy as the peaks can handle) and again, my 3630 fell behind. MGvolumizer is, in a word, brutal. My conclusion is that any engineer MUST buy 4A Studio, before it gets a sharp price increase. No pumping, no clipping, no complaints from me.

  It made my sonic foundry acid loops all the same volume in a few minutes - and we're talking THOUSANDS of loops! It's worth every cent just for that. Why can't GoldWave perform the same perfect job? Clearly the developers have spent endless hours tweaking this package. My movies are in the process of being re-encoded... this time I've been using DVDaudio, also from this 4A Studio package. From what I've read on a few forums, people seem to think WaveGenix has only built a grandly named set of compressors. Let me tell you, compared to professional hardware rack mounts, the dynamic range processing of 4A Studio adds even more punch - believe it or not. As with most other users, from what I can gather, MGvolumizer is my favourite tool in the pack. SpeedCompress is still in its early stages and I haven't really had a chance to use it but it certainly looks cool. With my years of experience in sound engineering, I can honestly recommend this as the best software compressor package available on the web. It has to be said also that the customer care is unusually good for a web-based development team. Can't wait for the next version.

  For some unknown reason, it locked my desktop the first time I used it. I e-mailed them and found out there was a problem with external software. Within seconds it was sorted out. Apart from that, no other problems!

  Extremely highly recommended... I give it 4 stars because it's amazing. My other professional audio tools are easy to use, but this one is absolutely too cool with its artificial intelligence. Right from the download, the installation looks out of this world. Never seen anything like it! A fantastic interface with easy-to-grab processing power. From all four ALIENs, my favourite compressor has to be the MGvolumizer. Wow! Talk about punchy results. I can see this software becoming very big in the movie community too. I use DVDaudio for my DivX movies because it blows the traditional dynamics utilities clean out of the water. A few years back, RMSdoctor was floating around the web as an infant DOS version. Now it's a fully graphical audio loudness program with batch mode as well. I'd recommend this power horse audio solution to anyone - even professional sound engineers should download it. Seriously, what a clever bit of software.

  This innovative software loses one star because... Perhaps this outstanding audio mastering software package would be even more powerful with MP3 support. SpeedCompress is based on the more traditional studio compressor, so it wasn't my favourite ALIEN in this package, although it is very good. I woulda liked direct DVD access too. Can't complain about only supporting WAVs, really, because it's designed for high-fidelity sound processing, which I suppose only exists in the supported WAVE format. Thinking about it, perhaps the lack of MP3 support is actually a GOOD thing! Who knows. Still, I think DVDaudio could be finely polished off with direct AC3 vob access. Nonetheless, I still love it to bits.
