This is the best app I've so far found for implementing the Replay Gain volume adjustment, which is far and away the best method of giving all your music tracks the same subjective volume adjustment. It doesn't mess with the internal dynamics of the track, but adjusts the overall volume of each track to match all your other tracks. This makes for much better sounding compilation and mixes. I mean, much much better. It's amazing what a difference this makes when listening. Absolutely indispensable. So good, in fact, that I actually shelled out the bucks to buy iVolume, which I rarely do, skinflint that I am.

      "Agree with latest feedbacks ..."

      May 19, 2008   |   By ghouben1

      Version: iVolume 3.0

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

First of all, I have to state, that I agree with the latest feedbacks!

I've been using iVolume for quite a while now and was completely pleased with the features it offered (... and I still am regarding version 2,x!).

Now that I've tried and payed (... and that was a bit fast, I think!) for version 3.0 I'm wondering about the lack in functionality as I really liked the way to use the "old" version, that is:

      1) select titles in iTunes
      2) start iVolume from the scripts menu
      3) adjust the selected titles as I wanted
      Voilá!

Regarding the new look, I'd say, it's a bit overdone ... I liked the streamlined simple interface of version 2.x much more!

Regarding the price: a bit too much for the functionality you get!

I already contacted the author of the software complaining about this "huge step backwards" and I'm now waiting for an answer ... let's see, what Mr. Schwind is going to tell me ...

Hmm, yes, to say something positive as well: as I use Windows as well, I really appreciate the fact, that - finally - a Windows version is also available!

      "Disappointing upgrade"

      May 18, 2008   |   By vnavone

      Version: iVolume 3.0

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using iVolume religiously since version 1. I was excited to see this new version, but have mixed feelings about it after having used it.

Pros: faster than earlier versions, manual access to all volume settings
Cons: clunky interface, not enough sorting options, no simple way of changing sound for just a few tracks.

I like how the previous versions of iVolume only showed and adjusted the tracks you had selected in iTunes. Now iVolume loads my entire library every time I launch it, and I have to make custom groups to narrow things down. I still can't figure out how to adjust a few selected songs - it keeps trying to adjust my entire library every time I hit "go".

Hopefully the author is following these comments and will add some of the lost functionality back in.

      "Updated, but not better"

I've supported iVolume for years, but this latest update flat out sucks. First the user interface is horrible. It looks nice and slick, but the headphones on the side are pointless. I much prefer the old, simple look. The $19.99 price tag is also ridiculous. I wouldn't mind paying about $5 to upgrade since I've supported it for years, but $20 is just too much for this product.

I'm blown away by this update - it's really great!
It's by far the best and most professional volume adjustment application available and the new look is brilliant.

The concept has changed compared to version 2, but it's much better now. Configuration is now "set and forget": Once configured to your needs, all you have to do it simply hit the "Start" button every time you launch iVolume. Cool! Especially if you want to adjust some albums in album mode, and others in single song mode etc.

Using all cores gives me a big performance hit.
First I was confused about that new speed control, until I realized that's the speed factor for the analysis compared to the real playback duration of the song. Neat.

But I sure miss just highlighting a group of track (or playlist) in iTunes, than running iVolume and it would check only the highlited tracks.
Now, it seems you have to create a new group in iVolume, drag these tracks over and then hit start.
      Am I missing something?
2.5 worked great, not sure why I'd upgrade to a version that takes, the main feature I use, away.

      "iVolume ROCKS!"

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've only been using it a short while but I can safely say that iVolume is worth the $15. I was constantly futzing with volume settings trying to get all my songs equalized but when you have several thousand songs it becomes impossible. Listening to my iPod was often a lesson in frustration.

But after running iVolume all my music is beautifully equalized. As others have pointed out it isn't 100% but it is about as good as it gets. Now all my songs are neither too loud or too soft.

If you are having volume issues don't rely on the built in sound check get iVolume.
