"Cannot Properly Evaluate / Import Issues"

This product looks like it could be a winner. Unfortunately, I cannot properly test it.

Software developers need to get away from the transaction limit trial. I am not going to buy an application without being able to put it through it's paces. Allowing only 100 transactions is just silly.

I have years of transactions that I want to import to see just how robust the application performs. Trial software should just lock up after the trial period (30 days is always nice). Prospective buyers need to be able to test it thoroughly before plunking down the cash.

The import seems to have an issue as well. When I selected to import a QIF with the option "All", which should have imported all of my accounts, categories and transactions, I received a prompt to define an account. It appears that you have to import accounts one at a time? I hope not. There's no way I'm going to take the time to do that. It's import all or nothing from my perspective.

I hope the developer changes the trial model and the import issue so that I can really give this application a proper shakedown. I'll be watching.

If only it could directly download bank statements, it would be perfect! The interface is native Mac. It's fast, easy, intuitive, flexible. I was quite surprised at what a great application it is. Seems to be a best kept secret!

"Good try; no cigar"

iCash has many features to help non-accountant types get to grips with their money. All good in principle but iCash but comes up short on the details we need in practice.

Accountants use journals for a reason and that's because sometimes a payment has a number of elements to it; every month I pay a foreign bank for my foreign mortgage - a payment that includes principle (contra entry against my asset), interest (an expense) and life insurance (another expense, subject to VAT). iCash wants that I create three entries for this and as a result do not have single entry on my bank ledger to correspond to the entry on my bank statement. COULD DO BETTER.

Then there's the foreign exchange function. They tried real hard here; too hard in fact - guys there's no need to triangulate three currencies. If I'm a Brit and use a US credit card to buy a hotel room in Canada then the CAD do not matter. The charge crystallizes in USD and I convert that GBP.

The net result is a system that works on one day and not another and for some accounts (bank) and not for other (credit card -> in liabilites); it's perverse and results in many, many data errors. COULD DO A LOT BETTER.

There are not many applications out there who get these principles and whilst I'm no fan of Moneydance's really challenging work environment (it takes me days to train anyone how to use it) they do at least understand FOREX and they do at least understand multi-part transactions.

Take great care with iCash; it "drives for glory" but does not yet "putt for money".

"Great application but missing some minor things"

I'm happy to use iCash for years now. It's getting better with every update and it's worth the price. It's very simple to use and setup if the initial setup is done. And I'm sure using this application to monitor all my money has saved me more than just the price for the app. Although I'm missing still some better functions to handle stocks / currencys. It's not possible at the moment to have your stocks or currencys updated to actual values automaticly.

But I'm sure that all those features missing atm willbe added in the future as support for this application is really good.

iCash Version 3.0.4 on Tiger 4.3.
Will not even set up the first page without a fatal crash.
First time downloaded so no old prefs etc to cause trouble.

"Looks nice, but is unusable due to constant crashes"

The demo looked nice and worked fine when I did some initial testing. So I bought the full version. But after I actually entered more data, the program crashed and the data file got corrupted. The App crashes every time I open the file.
iCash has a function to run a diagnostic on it's database, but that doesn't fix anything and just crashes as well.
I encountered this problem with both the English and German version, starting from scratch every time.

That said, now I'm going to try to get my money back.
