  A real-working VP-9 encoder! One of the few free programs that will encode VP-9. FFmpeg, on the other hand, gave errors when I tried to encode it. Great user interface, easy and well-organized; WAY better than MediaCoder! It offers many advanced options that aren't available in simpler programs like Any Video Converter, but if you are a novice, these can be left at the default. I also love that unlike MediaCoder, it will only offer codecs that are supported by your target format. MediaCoder doesn't validate that at all. It also doesn't freeze up and refuse to cancel like MediaCoder sometimes will. In short, my new favorite encoder.

  Pros

  I have had absolutely no problem with this program for converting my brand new 2015 blu rays and dvds. I dont understand the negative comments that I have read on here. I have been looking for a free converter and i have tried them all from "makemkv, handbrake, Acrok and this program has to be the best. and no i do not work for Xmedia Recode.

  No cons except that I wish this would convert faster.

  after all the blu rays that i have converted i would definitely even pay for this program if they asked me to.

  Easy to use, fast, and can do massive batch conversions

  Cons

  Simply put: the output files don't work. I converted about 700 .wav files into .flac files, and around 30-40% of them now skip, don't load properly, or don't load at all.

  Pros

  It is incredibly fast at repacking files. It has an elegant and simple interface that allows batch conversion of multiple files. Out performs all of the commercial options that I looked at.

  - Has all the advanced filtering options that only Handbrake also has - Optional stream copy feature (alternative to quality degrading conversion/transcoding) - Simple Non-linear visual editor - Easy to create chapter markers within videos - Extensive METADATA editing for all supported container formats - Impressive format support - Tons of hardware specific presets (preservation & presentation) - NO adware/malware

  Cons

  Not cons, but rather suggestions for further improvement: - x64 or video card utilization to increase conversion speed - Optional loading of presets for official metadata standards (e.g. METS, MPEG7, DublinCore) - Video capture feature

  Summary

  This program is the best (free) tool for video (and sound) finalization I've come across. This is the tool you should use, when you want to optimize your video fiels for end user purposes. Professional archivists can use it to add required metadata fields to any file format that supports metadata. Private film collectors and everyone else can add titled chapter markers to improve quick navigation features in lengthy home videos. The metadata editing options are extraordinary, especially because it supports MPEG4 tags as well as Matroska tags, which is VERY rare!

  Version 3.1.7.2 crashes every time I open a video file of any kind. I am using Windows XP SP3.

  A Gooogle search reveals that XMedia Recode is prone to crashing for a variety of reasons. Bug fixes may stop crashes for particular errors but new bugs appear with each revision.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Oct 1, 2013<p/>I don't believe it. I tried version 3.1.6.9 and that crashes when it opens a file.

  Pros

  I was looking for a program to convert my mkv videos to m4v for use on my ipad without transcoding. This program does it so well in a few minutes you have an m4v file with subtitles without loss of quality. Great product

  I confirm the favorable impression already made for previous versions. This software performs extremely well all the functions of cutting and re-encoding of video files. Easy to istall, this program requires a little application to understand how it works, but performs just as well the audio and video in perfect sync EASY INSTALLATION, no virus, no spyware Supports an impressive number of formats. Also the speed of execution is very good (on my laptop window 7). MULTILANGUAGE - ALL FUNCTIONS ARE FREE

• A little slow but the only way to go

  Pros

  Incredible array of parameters for tuning. Output quality is often equal to input with a fraction of the input file size. VOLUME CORRECTION! A huge factor in my decision to switch because I download thousands of music videos. It's similar to Super but superior in every way but one...

  Cons

  It is slow and I mean SLOW! Super can do a 1.5gb conversion in 20 minutes. Xmedia takes 10-12 hours.

  Summary

  I just recoded a 1.2gb movie to 674 without a loss of quality. I have used EVERY encoder out there over the years. For quality encodings that will be saved in my collection, I use XMedia Recode and nothing else. I have converted music videos and ended up with a conversion that is 1/8 the input size and in countless freeze frame comparisons, every bit it's equal. Only 4 stars because it is so slow but in terms of output quality, 100 stars!
