"Very, very poor"

March 30, 2008  |  By Full Score

 |  Version: X-Lite 3.0 47051

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Appalling customer service. All Emails remained unanswered even after sending them to three different addresses regarding BUYING the commercial version.
Terrible GUI - about as un-Mac-like as possible.
It has its own address book which is extremely rudimentary (can't sort or change the order)
No integration with Apple's Address Book
Very difficult to set up.

Will Vonage upgrade to this version?
A much better option is iSoftPhone - lovely iPhone-like interface and a real Mac app - but quite expensive

"Crashes on Intel-based Macs"

August 16, 2006  |  By Thorsten Heit

 |  Version: X-Lite 2.0 build 1106q

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
What I like:

  • The program doesn't cost anything, and after you get used to it it works quite well.
What I don't like:
  • The developers ignored all guidelines for Mac programs: X-Lite uses its own GUI that absolutely doesn't fit into the Mac desktop.
  • It uses its own address book instead of the OS X one that I would prefer.
  • On my MacBook Pro the program directly crashes when a phone call is terminated. It also crashes when you just start and then terminate it.
  • It took me some time to configure it until I was able to start my first phone call.
  • If I want to use a Bluetooth headset, I have to activate it in the system preferences first (under audio settings, input and output) before I start X-Lite - I haven't found out how I can tell X-Lite to use a certain device for audio in- and output.
BTW: X-Lite is not a universal binary, but works more or less under Rosetta (see above). There's already a version 3 available for Windows, but not for Mac (yet).

"Best softphone for OS X"

August 24, 2005  |  By NLBigs

 |  Version: X-Lite 2.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Sure.. the interface takes some getting used to, but feature-wise this is the best softphone for Mac OS X. I've been using this for a month, calling to various people using SIPPhone.com and my own SIP proxy and it works great. The CPU usage is low and it plays nice with the sleep function on my Powerbook.

Phonebook and password saving works fine here, by the way.

"Ugly, but it works"

August 09, 2005  |  By Gib Henry

 |  Version: X-Lite 2.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The interface is at best ugly, confusing, un-Mac-like and counter-intuitive. Nonetheless, once you figure it out, it works great. It DOES save log-in information and phonebook info, you just have to figure it out. Read the manual on the publisher's website (it's Unix, not a Mac application, so you DO have to read the manual!).

"This product isn't new"

December 11, 2004  |  By srey0123

 |  Version: X-Lite 2.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

Build 1103m (the one dated 09-dec-2004 here) was actually released about 7 months ago. This release fixed several issues, the most important of which was audio sampling problems that caused severe distortion.

I've been using it with both Free World Dialup and my own SIP registrar/proxy based on SIP Express Router. This app is worth well more than the purchase price.

"works fine"

just updated to new version. Was easy - no problems. Seems to work as should be.
If only the sound quality was better. I'll use skype more often as it seems to deliver better results (even if it supports outgoing calls to normal phones only and lacks incoming calls from normal phones).

"No problems!"

August 18, 2004  |  By flashyflicker

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Registered with: www.gossiptel.com. Downloaded the X-Lite software and followed the simple instructions on the www.gossiptel.com site to configure it.

Was actually quite shocked that it started working straight away with no problems!

The secret? You need to sign-up with a good SIP VoIP supplier and check they know how to set this software up.
