Wondershare Free YouTube Downloader for Mac is a lengthy name for a utility that does pretty much exactly what the name suggests. You can use this app to download videos from YouTube onto your Mac, convert YouTube videos for your portable iDevice, and format them for playback on your Mac using the built-in FLV player.
Wondershare Free YouTube Downloader for Mac installs quickly. The free version is a stripped-down version of a premium package that sells for $29.00, but many will find the free app is all they need. The features in the full version include better support for many different video sharing sites (not just YouTube), the ability to convert tracks to different formats, and the ability to extract audio from video files. The free version basically supports only YouTube downloading and playback in the included FLV player. The interface is clean, and you can either use the floating Download button in your browser, or drag and drop a YouTube URL on the app.
Wondershare Free YouTube Downloader for Mac worked fine for us, with no issues downloading from YouTube. As such we can recommend it, although hardcore video downloaders will want to upgrade to the full version. With that option, there are a few other YouTube downloaders available at lower cost (or free) that might be better solutions.

Easy to use within browser
FreeCons
Doesn't download all videos from YouTube. Some are analyzed and then get message "Download Failed." This happens too often to be a relable utility.
Summary
On Mac does not work with Firefox, but it does work with Safari
