NOT FREE- DOESN'T WORK WITHOUT $29.95

It works- scans the networks and shows whats on it- Oh- but if you don't pony-up the $29.95 it only shows you the first 6 devices on the network- then asks for money.
Cons
For free it only does a partial scan of your network. A utility this simple and non-productive - no matter how you dress it up- simply isn't worth $29.95 (to most people). To say its free and then ask for money is wrong. WRONG!
Summary
Truth in advertising- say limited functionality for free. I'm taking it off my mac for that reason alone.

The five device limit on the free version severely cripples this program both in its role as a "free" program and as an evaluation vehicle for potential buyers.
Summary
Others will have their own opinion, of course, but for my purposes, this was a disappointment. To begin with, I was disappointed with the installation which seemed to be little more than unpacking into the download folder. Then the five-device limit meant I couldn't get past the lower-numbered IPs to find out how well it identified more arcane devices like IP phones, etc. If I can't do that, where is my incentive to spend $30 to upgrade? If I am really desperate for an IP scanner, I can always leverage my investment in VMWare and Boot Camp to run one of the many free PC-based IP scanners. Or I can remote desktop to a PC or server to do it. Yes, I would be willing to spend $30 for an IP scanner that relieved me of the need to flip over to a PC - but not when I have no better trial than this.

Purchased a PC IP camera for my Mac. All I had to do was hook it up and find the IP address to the camera. Sounded simple. After 2 days of frustration I was ready to give up. Out of the blue I stumbled on to your site and tried the download. Worked immediately. Had the camera running in minutes. If there was a way to find what devices were running on my Mac, I never found it. IP Scanner 2.50 works great a must for Mac users.

I've used it on 2 G4 FW800 one running 10.4.11 the other 10.5.6 and now it's running on a Mac Mini, 1.83 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo also running 10.5.6. My only wish is that we'd be able to see the info on more than 5 items, it's showing 15 items found on my network but only the first 5 have any information showing.

It doesn't even do that. Doesn't see beyond my router (or even into the router). It doesn't see anything but my Mac and the router. A DSL Modem, a printer and two other PC's are on the network. Apparently, (i'm guessing here because I did not pursue it any further) the companion IP Broadcaster needs to be installed ---??

IP Scanner for the Macintosh displays all machines, users & IP numbers of Macintosh users on your local network. It also detects some non-Macintosh devices, and in many cases can even identify the manufacturer of the device. IP Scanner uses Bonjour (the technology formerly known as Rendezvous) to collect realtime user information as well as IP data from Macintosh machines on a local area network and sorts everything in tidy columns, each machine's IP number displayed next to its name (along with the current username of the person logged in to that machine). For small network admins, this means no more shouting around the office to find out who has which IP or, conversely, who is sitting at which workstation in a fixed IP network.
