Version: Winstep Xtreme 9.5
"great app with excellent support"
Pros: the core apps are very stable under vista sp1. very responsive and fast on my machine. easily one of the best ui replacements i have ever used. the developer is great and provides some of the best support out of any software i have ever purchased..
Cons: i wish there were more skins although many of the ones out there are really really nice. i think i may try to make a couple myself, it looks fairly straightforward. not enough modules. does not allow for the development of third party modules.
Summary: i remember playing with litestep, black box and icesphere under win95/98. so when i picked this app up i was like YES! things have come quite a long ways since then, no more editing of volumnous text files and such. this stuff is a blast to use and ... read more >>

Version: Winstep Xtreme 9.5
"A great product that I've used for years"
Pros: It's a highly configurable suite that allows you to replace as much or as little of the behavior of Windows Explorer with much better alternatives as you would like.
Cons: The interface for configuring the suite is a bit complex and some options are buried several layers deep. The author of the suite is working on a complete redesign of the configuration interface and that should resolve most of these issues.
Summary: If you'd like to have a Windows interface that works the way "you" work rather than how Microsoft decided you should work then this is the product for you.

"Desktop eyecandy like youv`e never saw before!!"
Pros: It works on Windows 7 x64 and is extremly stable.
Customisation of the apps is a breeze even for a novice, with more indepth options for the more experienced user.
First class support, possibly the best for any app I have used.Cons: The UI needs some work. It could be daunting for novice users.
Summary: I actually stumbled upon Xtreme while browsing away one night looking for something to replace the over rated objectdock, and in all honesty theres really no comparison. It stands out from the so called number 1 app and duely puts it in the shade.<... read more >>

"Very flexible and powerful. Responsive Developer too!"
Pros: 1. powerful taskbar replacment...much like Win7, without having Win7. But also works on Win7 ALREADY!
2. powerful dock program.
3. powerful "workshelf" allows you to organize projects (or whatever else).Cons: Only 1 (and it is a small one): Would like to be able to create subdock from a folder on my drive already (like a pre-built stack). Other than that, very solid!
Summary: There are lots of choices out there to customize the look and feel of Windows. I have tried them ALL (yes I may need a life). This one is my current favorite and the developer is very responsive on his forums.

Pros: Excellent support, product is constantly evolving with new/better features added on a regular basis. Stable and reliable on my system.
Cons: Some users complain about the lack of skins for the latest version, but some fantastic skins have surfaced lately, look for anything created by 'Webgizmos'
