Publisher's Description
From Microsoft:
Windows Live SkyDrive is a free online file-storage system. For each folder you create, you choose who has access to it. Add new folders, rename them, or change who has access at any time. It includes 5GB of free online storage, available from any computer with Internet access; it offers personal, shared, and public folders -- you decide who has access to each folder; and it works well on any Windows or Macintosh computer with Firefox 1.5 or higher, or Internet Explorer 6 or higher. Your personal folders are password-protected with your Windows Live ID, so only you have access. When you create a shared folder, the friends you're sharing with need to sign in with their own Windows Live ID and password.Just like at your online bank, all file transfers are protected using Secure Socket Layers (SSL).

"Should Still Be in Beta"
Version: Windows Live SkyDrive
Pros
Interfaces with Microsoft Office Products
Cons
Loses data, poor "saving" ability, can't easily see what teammates are working on.
Summary
This is inferior to Google Docs in terms of usability, trustworthiness, and ease of collaboration. The only advantage is the ability to use tables, charts, and graphs from Microsoft Office, which is impossible with Google Docs. Joining, sharing, and editing are all tedious.

"Happy if I can have my work backed up on a cloud,"
Version: Windows Live SkyDrive
Pros
I have spent many days looking at the various options but SkyDrive has a lot going for it. As I have a huge and lengthy task a head of me, the time spent on the transfer of data is more important than the cost of using the software.
Cons
I am not sure if it would be possible to transfer folders containing Word Documents; PDF and photographs, then it would be 5 Star.
Summary
Possibly the best way is to download it and do some experimenting, thank you all for the reviews.

"Could be great"
Version: Windows Live SkyDrive
Pros
Free is always good.
Cons
The size limit per file is a big con and it would be nice to have a way to use a backup program to ftp to the site automatically. Change these and it goes to 5 stars

Version: Windows Live SkyDrive
Pros
Its free, its well integrated into Windows Live and now you can even create, view and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote files.
Cons
File sizes are limited to 50MB but most docs, pictures and small videos are well under that limit.
Summary
Overall a great service with free office apps. I usually have no bad experiences with this service. This is one of the best services ever.

"Great Deal"
Version: Windows Live SkyDrive
Pros
Free, easy to use, plenty space at 25GB, free, web format, oh and did I mention it was free.....
Cons
None as of yet
Summary
After using several different services, and experiencing different degrees of difficulty in uploading, downloading, accessing and changing my files, I have found no such difficulty with skydrive and I got 25 GB to boot !!! (5GB with office live)
It may take a little while to navigate the how tos, as it operates a little differently (and better in my opinion) than some of the other services out there. The ability to have only some of the files shared and in such an extensive way I think is great. Only having the one password to remember is great too. I don't believe there is (as yet, i hope) a way to do a scheduled back up, but all in all I have to say hats off to microsoft for coming up with a great easy to use and free storage solution. I see so much more in its future, I 'd say it's going to give a lot of paying storage companies a lot to think about. -
"Nice software from Microsoft, useful and well laid out"
Version: Windows Live SkyDrive
Pros
It's easy to use, it's free and there is cirtainly enough space (5GB) to justify it's use.
Cons
Not many although it can be slow to use. It's slowness probably depends on the speed of your internet connetion/computer. Also, at peak times it won't load about 40% of the pages either for a very long time or not at all.
Summary
The SkyDrive is a well thought out, laid out and concived tool and it's very good that Microsoft is providing it free. The storage space is exelent, the 5GB being more that most casual users may ever need. Executives of buisnesses may find it lacking space and speed but to get any better they would have to pay monthly. The biggest issue is the problems at peak time. I don't know how well the paid for alternatives handle this but rest assured, SkyDrive does not. Pages take about 30-120 seconds to load and are often incomplete for annother 60 seconds. Either that or they will not load at all. This can be rectified by hitting the reload button but you'll still be waiting a hell of a long time to see your files. Taht said, if you can upload or download your files erlier or later in the day, it is exeptional. Over all, well done Microsoft!
