Ventrilo is the next evolutionary step of Voice over IP (VoIP) group communications software. Ventrilo is also the industry standard by which all others measure themselves as they attempt to imitate its features. By offering surround sound positioning and special sound effects on a per user, per channel, per server or global configuration level the program provides each user the option to fully customize exactly how they wish to hear sounds from other users or events.
Ventrilo is best known for it's superior sound quality and minimal use of CPU resources so as not to interfere with day to day operations of the computer or during online game competitions. It is also preferred for the simple user interface that any first time computer user can very quickly learn because the most commonly used features are immediately visible and can be activated with a single click of the mouse.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. As others have said, it's still missing GSM. It's been years now, why haven't they implemented it? GSM 6.10 is open source, so it's not a licensing or copyrighted issue with Macs.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. This release is more of the same useless garbage we had with the prototypes. No GSM = Useless. If it is at all possible Use teamspeex. I know its also speex codec, but thats what most teamspeak servers use anyway. I am fortunate my guild does not use this but uses teampeak. However this is typical of companies like AOL and MixMan who release a half hearted product then sit back scratching their heads wondering why mac users dont flock to their door. If you read their forums they excuse the lack of gsm in many ways and tell mac users to talk their guild leaders in to switching. Why don't they just stop offering GSM to windows users and see what the response is. Thanks vent, you've set my loyalty to TeamSpeak in stone.

Version: Ventrilo 2.3.2.Prototype.14
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. This program disappoints me for a couple of different very annoying reasons.
The first is that it doesn't support the codec that most Ventrilo servers use. So it's worthless unless you find someone willing to switch to Speex codec.
Once you are on a server that works, the second problem is that the program CONSTANTLY loses the settings. Every other time I launch it, I have to redo the preferences from "default" to select my USB headset.
Bottom line is to use Teamspeex until the Ventrilo people fix these glaring issues.
The new default transmit indicator is "Flash User Name", located in Setup > GUI. It is recommended that Avatars be enabled and User Icons be disabled.
Multiple Themes are included with the ability to create your own. Re-sizing the window on some themes will reveal additional effects. Additional Themes are available for download from the Themes Library. Some themes may require an increase in the font size or setting the font to "bold" mode.
Multiple server connections can now be implemented by opening new Main-Windows.
