Publisher's description of TestDisk & PhotoRec
From CG Security:TestDisk is a powerful data recovery utility. It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing your Partition Table). PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost pictures or lost files from digital camera memory (CompactFlash, Memory Stick, SecureDigital, SmartMedia, Microdrive, MMC, USB Memory Drives), even Hard Disks and CDRom. PhotoRec is safe to use, it will never attempt to write to the drive or memory support you are about to recover from. Recovered files are instead written in the directory from where you are running the PhotoRec program.
Version 6.10 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.10
"Recovered my lost partitions!"
Pros: Worked like a charm! Costs less (free)! Good online documentation.
Cons: I agree with one of the other posts in that the dos based interface is not the best or most user-friendly but if you read the online documentation, it walks you through the process pretty well.
Summary: This tool worked when others failed. I repartitioned my drive with one of those Linux based partitioning tools and it shanked two of my four partitions. After installing this tool, it found those lost partitions and updated the partition table rec... read more >>

Version: TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.10
"This works really well & it's free"
Pros: -It works with many operating systems, even Vista. There's a version for mac also
-It recovers ALL KINDS of data such as pix, music, excel, powerpoint, office, etc.Cons: Can't think of much. It does take awhile because it recovers so much info, so you have to be patient in the recovery process.
Summary: I've used this on 2 of my friends computers to recover music and pictures after they accidentally reformatted instead of doing a system restore. It has worked every time & they think I'm a god for it, but it's this program that gets the credit.... read more >>

Version: TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.10
Pros: once you get it running, it's very quick and you can even see the files as they populate onto the recovery folder. and it's FREE!! what's better than that?
Cons: it's in DOS and i'm not the most versed person- so it took me awhile to figure out. but the link to the Help was somewhat useful but for the most part, i joked poked around. you have to be PATIENT - it's worth it than paying.
Summary: i was at a meet&greet with the lead singer of JOURNEY- Arnel Pineda- and stupid me- i accidentally deleted all those precious pictures! i was desperate, and i poked around for recovery software. there are ALOT out there- but many of them will c... read more >>
