This free program offers search capabilities that surpass Windows built-in search functions. It took a visit to the Help menu to learn how to properly search for specific files, but it was worth the extra time.

Super Finder's user interface isn't extraordinary, but it's easy enough to understand. Tabs let you navigate between date and time configurations and general setup options. You can search by file or folder name, and choose the file extensions that you want to exclude in the search. To narrow down or expand the search, you can select the drives that you want to include, as well as any subfolders. More advanced settings let us specify dates and time parameters and file attributes. We had to visit the Help menu to figure out how to perform a wild card search for a keyword, but our research paid off because as soon as we entered the proper asterisk and keyword, the program quickly pulled up all related files according to our specified criteria. Large command buttons on the interface let us manage specific files. With the simple click of a button, we were able to open, delete, rename, and check the properties of a selected file.

If you're willing to spend a little time with this program, the fast search results it worth the time. We highly recommend this search program for all user levels.

Great finder, annoying function

Pros
Does pretty much everything it's supposed to do, and is easy to use.
Cons
It has the really annoying habit of starting when windows starts. I have disabled this several times, but it seems to enable it on its own. Even though I otherwise like the program, I find this lack of respect for my preferences so annoying I will now unistall it. Also, it could have supported a broader range of patter reckognision, with more wild cards etc (regex support would be great).

Uses British format and doesn't find by date. When I searched "after such and such date" it gave me the whole directory. I thought they had fixed this bug.

Pros
It works like the XP search program. No fuss. Just tick the boxes at the top to choose file and/or folder then do your search. It's a lovely present for Windows 7 users.

I was so sick of not being able to find files with the stupid Windows 7 search function that hogged my computer indexing files yet couldn''t find a file under its nose, that I investigated the possibility of an independant program doing the job and found this great little program.

Pros
I give it 4 stars - Search speed is great, ability to define and save the paths to search is very useful, advanced options give very powerful search capabilities, but best features to me were the built-in rename, copy, etc file management abilities.
Cons
Seems only way to move a file is a 2 step process: Copy it to new directory first and then delete the original. Minor "con" in a great search & file management app. Goodbye AvaFind, goodbye Agent Ransack.

Pros
Much faster than the built-in searchers from XP or Vista, and if it can't find what you want, it wastes a lot less time by giving up sooner. The price was right, and the interface is uninspired but easy to use.
Cons
Can't set it to search 2 hard drives at once. Finds more files than the built-in searchers do, but not a huge percentage more. Still needs to be pointed in the general (sometimes very specific) direction of the file you're searching for.

I never thought I would find myself missing the little doggie from XP, but then I involuntarily "upgraded" to Vista and discovered that its search feature is even slower and dimmer--most of the time, if you want it to locate a file, you have to show it approximately where the file is. Super Finder needs a little less coaching, but not much less. I think that the file system on Vista is a lot more confusing than the one on XP, and I admit that my files were heavily disorganized by a well-meaning tech a few months ago--but that's why I need a really good searcher, and Super Finder isn't quite it.

It's fast and effective enough in it's search function, but other programs can do equally well. What's best is it's free and no adv.

Don't notice any thing bad about the program so far.

searches very thoroughly. easy to use once you give it a little thought.

older versions have access violations in startup. i could fix the problem on XP but had a hard time getting it to cooperate in vista.

i must admit, i haven't used the new version much, but it seems to be even better. i seriously hope that the access violations in startup have been resolved. however, when it comes to searching, i haven't found a better one (and I've been looking due to the grief at startup). granted it doesn't do a content search (or at least, the older one didn't), and that would be nice to have, but it will find files that the native search on windows doesn't find. it's a MUST have for your computer.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Mar 2, 2009<p/>no........access violations are still present. i did think it might be my fault, but since this is a clean install, there's nothing that i could have done to cause this. however, i still love it. i just click "ok" on the error and go on as normal.
