  Pros

  I use several splitters; none do everything on all files. Solveig does most files, has the least bugs, and has the best interface. Free alternatives include virtualdub and avidemux, but are more buggy, less easy to use. FFmpeg is less buggy; but much less easy to use. A lot of the previous comments above are rubbish from people that don't know what they are talking about. THis is just a lossless editor.

  Cons

  Solveig doesn't do flv ; more do most other splitters. You need to convert them to mp4 (can be easily done with ffmpeg etc). Solveig runs into memory problems on complex edits on 64 bit WIndows. I have a powerful computer and attribute a lot of memory to the program. So the application is at fault. The joiner is just a basic add-on. It joins fewer files than avidemux... Solveig refuses to join far more files .. avidemux will join more but do it often imperfectly (audio out of sync). Solveig has a great option to mute sound on edits. It'd be great to keep sound but mute video sometimes.

  I am an Instrument technician for a power company, I never even heard of Solveig MM until a week ago. Windows 7 (x64). I have searched for over 2 years for a program that would simply JOIN my Cannon 7d MOV movie files without losing quality (NO Conversion). I have tried over 25 different joiners, splitters, NLE's (Non Linear Editors) without finding one that lived up to there claims of lossless quality output, ALL require some kind of conversion process. I have a ton of cash and time invested in this research. Solveig MM is the ONLY program that will import, JOIN, and export the exact same file size that you import. Example if you import 3 files at 500 KB, your output will be 1.5 MB. It joins a 10 minute movie in 1 minute (FAST). Output quality is EXACTLY the same as the Input quality. This is a no-brainer!!

  NONE! It's Fast, compact, and works Great on Windows 7.

  Summary

  I have used Premiere Elements, Power Director, Sony Vegas, Lightroom, and countless other programs to try accomplish this task, none have given me the results I expected. All lose quality when Rendering to the output. Not saying these programs don't have there place, just saying they cannot replicate the quality of the input MOV files.

  Does what it promises. It is very simple to use, and we can cut with a precision of 0,01 s. Supports a lot of video formats, including dvd.

  Pros

  The best thing is that it edits AVI files from Canon cameras (among probably all others) without degrading sound quality. If you check the web, this has been a major problem for many people. The program is tiny and it does just what I want. Hooray!

  It is mostly a video splitter. I believe it does other things, but for someone who wants special effects, I would imagine this is not the program for you.

  I have searched the net for an AVI editor to no avail up til now. I even downloaded Pinnacle only to find that they don't support AVI files - all 1.4 GB of it. Solveig is only about 3.4 MB! Windows Movie Maker was degrading the sound quality to a point that made it truly unlistenable. All I wanted was to get rid of the bits I didn't want! It's extremely fast (15 seconds maybe) and if you read their advice about how to use the program, easy. (The advice might take you a minute to read). Good luck!

  Pros

  Great software. After trying 3 video splitting applications, this one did exactly what I needed. Just installed, moved the sliders, and clicked "trim". Didn't require you to re-encode the video and choose new formatting or anything. Thanks!

  Pros

  It is fast, because there is no re-encoding. Good tool if you need only cutting. It takes about one minute per one hour of .avi file.

  21 days trial. Also consider another tool if you need more functionality other than simple cutting (e.g. using encoding).
