Skype Portable is a lean Skype installation designed to take Skype with you wherever you go. Install Skype on a USB drive or other portable device, and you'll be able to use the program from anywhere.

Pros

Familiar: Skype Portable operates exactly as you would expect Skype to operate, which is essential when using a different version of such a high-profile program.

USB portability: We tested Skype Portable by installing it on a variety of devices and attempting to run it from those devices. No matter which device we tried it on, we were able to launch Skype calls and messaging sessions without issue.

Straightforward installation: Skype streamlined installation to make it very easy, whether you're installing it on your PC or on a mobile drive or device. Creating a new Skype account or logging in with an existing one both worked equally well.

Cons

Some redundancy: Skype may already be installed on your computer and mobile devices. Therefore, although this program is useful, it is questionable as to how necessary it actually is.

Bottom Line

If for some reason you feel that you need to keep Skype on a mobile drive, then Skype Portable works very well. It launches without difficulty and provides Skype's full functionality wherever you take it.

Pros
Great portable version of Skype Keeps all your settings, logins, etc to be used anywhere. Quick and simple.
Cons
Tried on a computer where I'm not admin. Didn't work because I didn't have authority to bypass firewall (not this app's fault though)
Summary
Skype Portable is a great portable app, but I gave it 4 stars because Skype itself isn't worth more.

Easy to set up, use, and all on a usb stick. What more can you ask? Oh, and video works a treat.

I only got the free edition, but wow... free skype to skype video chat? Are you kidding me? I will soon go pro with this because up till now I been using yahoo chat that has too many problems, but this skype really rocks and so far not a single problem with the video chat. It all works like a charm so far.

I can put it on a USB and it is legal. Video calls are fantastic. Group calls and group chat. I've always enjoyed the emoticons. I can stay in touch with family for free. Calls 1800 numbers free. Pretty cheap rates.
Cons
I can't afford some of the great options that paid packages have.
Summary
Get your whole family used to using skype. Its great for communication.
I used earlier versions and I was satisfied.
