Random Password Generator is a useful utility for creating custom passwords to meet different specifications, either individually or in bulk. And because random passwords are generally harder to remember, the program also includes a Password Manager to keep track of all of your log-in information.

Pros

Clear interface: No matter how much experience you have with these types of programs, you'll have no trouble finding your way around this app. There are three tabs across the top of the interface, one each for Password Generator, Password Manager, and Change Password. All entry blanks are clearly labeled as well, so you'll quickly understand what needs to go where.

Generation options: When it comes to generating new passwords, you'll have a lot of options in this program. The Password Generator screen offers check boxes for including small letters, capital letters, numbers, and punctuation. You can also select the desired length of the password and input how many passwords matching the specifications you'd like to generate at once, from one to 100.

Cons

Manual entry: The Password Manager feature requires you to enter the log-in information for each account you want to save individually. You also have to enter the information manually into the websites each time you want to log in. This makes it really more of just a place to list all of your passwords that's a bit more secure, rather than a full-featured manager program, many of which can automatically record your log-ins as you enter them and autofill forms whenever you need.

No Help file: There is no Help file available to go with this program. While it's not likely you'll need it, since the interface and functions are pretty straightforward, it's nice to have a reference available if you do run into trouble.

Bottom Line

Random Password Generator performs its main function well. It generates passwords quickly and to your desired specifications. If you want a full-featured Password Manager as well, you may be disappointed with what you find here, but overall it's a good free option for increasing the security of your account log-ins.

"GREAT PROGRAM!"

September 04, 2014  |  By boxturtle4

 |  Version: Random Password Generator 1.3

Pros

I have used this program for several years on a couple of computers. Please don't be concerned that it will add tool bars or malware because it doesn't. Not sure why entering a password to use the program bothers people. Yes, you create a password to enter the program so anyone using your computer can't see the passwords you created.

Cons

No negatives for downloading or using this program.

Summary

Love it! It is a very free, small, simple download. Very easy to use. Will create passwords for you or you can make your own and see how weak or strong they are.

Cons

Tries to install toolbars dishonestly on setup. Most unsophisticated users would miss it.

"Useful if you want to quickly generate passwords."

February 02, 2013  |  By treadhead1952

 |  Version: Random Password Generator 1.3

Pros

Regular password changes are the one of the only ways to keep ahead of the hacker weasels who seem to delight in worming their way into anyone and everyone's computers from 8 year olds to Uncle Sam. Rather than spending a great deal of time and imagination trying to come up with enough of them to keep your data reasonably secure on a regular basis Random Password Generator does this for you quickly and easily.

Cons

While it does do it's namesake function pretty efficiently, do not rely on it's secure storage of your Randomly Generated Passwords. Getting into that is actually laughably simple.

Summary

Choosing the number of places for your passwords, using as many different types of characters from letters in upper and lower case, numbers and symbols as well as changing the passwords on a regular basis is an excellent way to foil attempts to get into your data. While some places limit your choices by not allowing one or more types of characters, some don't allow symbols, others numbers just limits your password effectiveness. To get around this change them regularly. Rely on a storage system other than the native one the program offers you. Other than that, it is pretty handy and easy to use.

"Good Generator, bad secure storage"

April 18, 2012  |  By RSmith12573

 |  Version: Random Password Generator 1.2

Pros

Very easy to use Pass Generator that can generate up to 100 passwords at a time. I use it all the time at least once every three months to update critical passwords (financial, vpn, web site admin access, etc.)I can see how this would work well in a SOHO too.

Cons

Found a backdoor to get into the password "vault" (password storage) No I will not tell you how one can easily hack in and retrieve passwords (seriously a baby could figure it out). So as long as you use it ONLY to generate you passwords, pin#'a and etc. you will be fine. I suggest looking elsewhere for a more secure password vault.

Summary

Very good for password generation.. would like to see a list of avail. algorithms that could be used for generation (ie. DoD). Needs better security in it's password storage. For password storage there are plenty of other free apps on download.com that can be used. You could find an app that has a generator and more secure storage, but they are usually only a trial version even when they claim it's free.

 |  Version: Random Password Generator 1.2

Pros

Nothing positive compared to Password Promoter

Cons

Far to complex compared to Password Promoter

Summary

I find no singular advantage over the very simple and lean Password Promoter that was also free several years ago.
