Publisher's Description
From Trend Micro:
Malicious software called Bots can secretly take control of computers and make them participate in networks called "Botnets." These networks can harness massive computing power and Internet bandwidth to relay spam, attack web servers, infect more computers, and perform other illicit activities.
RUBotted monitors your computer for suspicious activities and regularly checks with an online service to identify behavior associated with Bots. Upon discovering a potential infection, RUBotted prompts you to scan and clean your computer.

"Lucky it's free because it's not worth a dime."
Version: RUBotted 1.5 beta
Pros
Software is good for detecting "outside the norm" traffic going out of your computer. That's it. But and a big BUT, that maliciously accessed address detected may not be that malicious.
Cons
No additional information...like the address and port. You have to use a sniffer to gather that information, that's what I thought this software is actually doing. It sits on the network layer and analyzes packet traffic outbound your computer.
Summary
I have a bot and can't seem to clean it off. The only way of preventing it from broadcasting to an irc room is to block all the irc ports along with the authentication port for irc. This would be an outstanding product if they would just add a little information. The false positives are a waste of time. You have to download a scanner and wait for it to run for hours and hours, and turns out you have nothing but a few cookies that seem malicious.

"Has potential.. good work."
Version: RUBotted 1.5 beta
Pros
It's the only product out there like it and it picked up Qakbot immediatley. I knew I would get hit and wanted to see if the product worked. And it did.
Cons
It doesn't give you enough information AFTER. It would be helpful even to get a name and location or a time you were infected..
Summary
I continue to use it - hope that the developers put some more time and thought as it really is a good idea and has potential - ty

"RUBotted not worth it"
Version: RUBotted 1.5 beta
Pros
easy to install & configure
Cons
generic unspecific message "Detected DNS query of malicious domain" without specifying the "malicious" domain or even attempting to identify which process made the DNS query on my computer.
Summary
I tried running RUBotted for a few days . . . . . here's why it isn't worth it:
1) anti-malware programs can interfere with each other if you have several of them in the system tray running all the time, so you kinda have to choose the best ones.
2) RUBotted is beta, so by definition it's buggy, so it isn't yet one of the "best ones".
3) it sounded the alarm that it "Detected DNS query of malicious domain" without specifying the "malicious" domain or even attempting to identify which process made the DNS query on my computer. This happened after I initiated an SSH connection to a private server one of my friends runs, which is certainly not a malicious domain. Was it red-flagging my server? Since it doesn't give any more information other than that generic error, I'll never know.
4) the false-positive result prompted me to install more Trend Micro software to "clean" my computer, which is free for the first use only, so they're trying to upsell me on paid software when I'm not even satisfied with the free software's accuracy or completeness. -
"I don't know whether this product works or not"
Version: RUBotted 1.5 beta
Pros
RUBotted occasionally detects a bot on my PC.
Cons
When I click on the link to clean my system using HouseCall I always get a clean report, with no bot being found by RUBotted's own cleaning software. So does my PC have a bot or doesn't it? Even RUBotted doesn't know, so it's mostly a useless tool.
Summary
Maybe it works and maybe it doesn't. Since I can't be sure why would I waste my time with it? Just to check things out, I uninstalled RUBotted and then downloaded a fresh copy. When I reinstall, RUBotted tells me that my PC is uninfected whereas a minute before it was telling me that my PC was infected.
This product has zero value.
