Summary

If you are looking for the best program to optimize your hdd performance then this is it. It runs completely off of scripts so you can use the ones it comes with or write your own. For those of us who play games that access the hard drive constantly (i.e. WoW), we can customize the scripts to put those files at the beginning of the drive so that they perform wonderfully, even on a full hard drive. There is documentation on the website so anyone who has done some light programming should feel right at home with writing scripts. This is an absolute must for power users.

"Simply the BEST Defrag Program out there"

Pros

Every other defrag program I've tried defrags the files OK, but leaves them scattered all over your hard drive. Therefore, while 25% of your drive may be "free space", it's contained in thousands of tiny little fragments of free space. This program not only defrags yours files, but gives you nearly unlimited options as to how to reorganize them on your hard drive so you have large, contiguous blocks of free space.

The hard drive map is VERY detailed (see the Con below). However, once you get used to it, it is fantastic to see exactly where your files are located and where the free space is on your hard drive.

You can move your cursor over any portion of your hard drive map, and it tells you the name of the file located in that portion of your hard drive and how many fragments it is divided into.

Cons

The first time you open the GUI, it looks like abstract art. Unlike most defrag programs, it is showing you the status of each and every block and sector of your hard drive.

It would be nice if there were a color key on the screen to remind you what all the color patches mean on your hard drive. You have to go to Help to get this information.

"Looks aren't everything"

Pros

Free. Fast. It seems to do a great job, and what's not to like.

Cons

Haven't found a way to start the program and have it shut down the computer automatically when complete.. but not a big deal.

Summary

This is a basic defrag program that doesn't have the pretty interface. It's almost like running DOS again. The screen looks old, but it's not about the appearance, it's about the job it does.. and it does it very well.

Pros

The only free defrag I've found that will move start-up files to the front of the disk as well as this one, and sorts all files.

Cons

Interface but for free, who's complaining?

"Best disk defragmenter and optimizer out there IMHO"

Pros

Best defragmenter and optimizer program I have used.I was using this back when it was called JKdefrag.I tried others like Auslogics but this one is better in my opinion and does a better job.Auslogics left files scattered all over my hard drive and didn't optimize and line them up right.MyDefrag works like the old Norton Speed Disc use to but faster.With the other Free ones I didn't see as much speed difference as I do with this.Number one in my book.

"WOW, great defrag program!"

Pros

This is a great defragger. It's my new everyday defrag program.

Cons

GUI is lacking but it works. Wish it had a boot option.

Summary

I can't count the number of computers that I've reformatted in the last ten years. I usually use the system defrag after all software and updates are installed. I've used other defraggers in the past but none seemed to be any better than the system defragger. Figured I'd try something new this time so I tried a couple other defraggers. First I tried Defraggler and UltraDefrag right after the install. I noticed no difference in speed at all just like the system defragger. Then I gave MyDefrag a try on the same fresh install and holy #$%! I cant believe the difference in app loading. All MSOffice programs load instantly on a p4 2.66. All other software loads quick as well. I really can't believe the difference from the other defraggers I ran on the same computer. I have several of the same p4 2.66's and none of them have ever been this responsive.

"Excellent Defragger"

Pros

I can actually notice a performance increase unlike Defraggler, and there is a wide variety of scripts to choose from for your every day needs including daily, weekly, and monthly. It's free to!

Cons

(Can) take a while to defrag, but its performance outweighs this by any level.

"For the bucks (free), very good software"

Pros

Easy to use, does work for all kind of volume, provide excellent and thorough de-fragging with noticeable speed improvement. Multi-level fragmentation schedule (daily, weekly, monthly) very good. Cannot get better with commercial products.

Cons

Old looking interface with mysterious color legend. Scheduling is not intuitive to me (how to schedule specific tasks toward one drive and other tasks toward other drives unclear).

Summary

You can replace the Windows defragger with MyDefrag with confidence that a good job will be done, this is one freeware which has kept improving over the years and concentrated efforts over working features rather than the interface and appearance - it shows and MyDefrag provides superior de-fragmentation coming at equal footage than what commercial products provides. NB: users have noted restore points issues; I do not use restore points (they often fail when needed the most so moved to other safer means) and this could may be an issue. Nonetheless, this product is an excellent choice if you are looking for a bit more than the basic Windows defrag features.
