  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Well the channel tabs look bit weird and there is no GUI to handle DCC and completely configure MacIrssi, but this update nevertheless raises it to the top OSX irc clients. With nicer GUI than with X-Chat Aqua this is my new favorite

I've always liked irssi, and whilst I've occasionally been tempted away by GUI-based clients (most recently Snak and jIRCii), I invariably find that returning to irssi feels like coming home again. Macirssi is essentially a simple, non-intrusive GUI wrapped around irssi. It adds a few VERY useful features UI-wise (the floater, tabbed channel windows, clickable URL's etc) without getting in the way, and without detracting from irssi's strong points. One of the very few GUI-based clients suitable for /opers and other IRC power users, yet easy enough to get to grips with for relative beginners (provided they don't object to RTFM *g*). It may not yet be feature complete, but as it's still basically irssi, all the power is there; even if it's not all accessible via the GUI quite yet. My thanks to the developer - this is a gem. I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes, but in the meantime it has displaced jIRCii as my preferred GUI-based client.

It's still a little basic without nick, network, channel/server, dcc preferences, but I'm sure they'll be added eventually. When they are, I'll really consider switching over. Nice job for such an early version... keep it up!

I would switch to it full time, but installing any irssi scripts seems to make MacIrssi crash, hang, or log an error on startup. I'm *very much* tracking the development of this client.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Just the kind of irc-client I've been looking for. Before macirrsi I was "stuck" with Snak, but I never felt statisfied with it. With macirrsi I was able to configure the program just the way I like it, alot still has to be made through the input line, but although my computer skills are lacking it was no problem. I even configured my own theme in no time to make it look really nice. Can't wait to see what the full version has in store, top notch!

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />It's not too bad, personally I odn't need very much flash for a IRC client, i like to easily switch between open channels, and have liked tab or similar methods of switching between the windows/channels, and this has a nice method. it still feels like a command line irc client which i feel kind of comfortable with. it's like a step above running it in a terminal with the added bonus that i like having in a GUI one, being able to see a user list, channels i'm in, and be able to right click and doo a few things. yay, but still checking it out.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />Where should I start... it's a clunky GUI to a very nice commandline app. The windowing is basically unchanged (is typing '/window 1' really harder than command-1?). The help menu reads "No help for you"... irssi has a very nice help file, but apparently the author couldn't even be bothered to put it in a little text box. All it really is is an irritating semitransparent window with a terminal window running irssi at the middle of it. I'm a huge fan of irssi, but this app basically surgically removes everything that makes irssi good.
