Version: MPEG Streamclip 1.2

Cons: You have to Quicktime in order for it to work.

Version: MPEG Streamclip 1.2
"exactly what I wanted, does the job, no extraneous junk"
Pros: Does exactly what it says it will. No fussing about. Installs in seconds. Appears to be very light on CPU. Very easy to use, don't need to read the instructions (apart from the READ ME FIRST file - you do need to read that!)
Cons: Didn't let me drag the file into it. Had to go via the menu. But not a problem. READ ME FIRST file says you need to have QuickTime or equivalent installed to run the program. But that is not a problem - most people have this.
Summary: No flashy graphics, upgrade offers, doesn't assume it knows what I want, doesn't eat my CPU. Just converts the file from what it is, to what I want it to be. Saves it where I want it to be saved. Nothing more. Nothing confusing. The best kind of sof... read more >>

Version: MPEG Streamclip 1.2
"It did the MP4 to AVI conversion I needed"
Pros: Did what I expected it to do, converted the MP4 file to AVI while another well rated software (Format Factory) did not. I have not used it more yet.
Cons: Did not come with an installer, you can add the icons yourself but it's nice if the software does it for you. The conversion was quite slow. I have not used it more yet.

Version: MPEG Streamclip 1.2
Pros: Great for merging and converting certain movie files to other formats. Basic cutting is very precise. Wide variety of compression types.
Cons: Can't import AVIs, although it can export them (figure that out). Lacks a lot of useful editing features. Doesn't fix the sizes for multiple clips with different resolutions. Only merges clips in alphabetical order, for some reason.
Summary: It's still too young. If you just want to snag some quick clips from your favorite podcasts, this is right up your alley. However, if you're looking for a potential alternative to Windows Movie Maker, move along.
