"WORSE NOW THAN EVER!"
Version: LogMeIn Hamachi 2.1.0.159
Pros
> None, just terrible all around.
Cons
> TERRIBLE CONNECTIVITY: Lose connection multiple times from every computer (office and home computers, apple and pc, etc) for years now.
> TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVCE: They will just tell you to contact everyone else (pc manufacturer, verizon, etc.)
> EXPENSIVE: Subscription is cheap, but in order not to lose the connection they'll convince you to keep upgrading your internet speed. We went from 10MB to 35 MBS, full subscription service with "direct connection", one year later and still dropped service every day.Summary
We've been a LogMeIn Hachi client for 3 years and we're done. It was free when they came out, then started channeling free (non-subscription) client to "indirect" connections which meant your computer would freeze, never log in. We upgraded to subscription and it was okay for about two months. Then they released new version and it went to hell, said we needed faster speeds. We upgraded once a quarter until we finally reached 35 MB upload and download. Still after one year at that speed, freezes out computers every day. Ever call customer service, expect to be on hold for an hour and then their tech support just blames everyone else (our computers, verizon fios, fire walls, the weather, Monday's are bad for Hamachi, terrorism in the middle east, etc). We had everything checked out including verizon reps, firewalls specialists, networking specialists - everything is working find. Last call today because their service is down again, on hold for 48 minutes then went to Hamachi company voicemail saying they're having "technical difficulties" and hung up on us. Even with the daunting task of switching over 10 employees computers to a new server STILL got a 10-0 vote from everyone to cancel the Hamachi subscription service. WORST COMPANY AND REMOTE ACCESS SERVICE EVER, STAY AWAY!

"Does the job very well without fuss or ads."
Version: LogMeIn Hamachi 2.1.0.159
Pros
I have used Hamachi for 3 years and it has always worked well. Does not use significant resources and does not intrude. When I have to connect from our remote office it has always worked. I put my notebook into sleep mode and travel to the office. I bring it out of sleep, plug into the local LAN and in 20 seconds or so I am reconnected to my server across town in a secure connection.
Cons
The initial setup had some rough spots for me. I'm not an IT person. More general management. Probably me not understanding what was what. At first it seemed to hang and require rebooting, but it did work then. After a few weeks things just started working smoothly without any input.
Summary
If it works on this my notebook it works. I run an old Dell B130 laptop with XP and 1GB ram. Never reformatted the drive. Even with maybe 6 years of Windows crud buildup and constant use it works very well. XP is dead. Long live XP.

"Version 2.1.0.166: Far from as good as it used to be."
Version: LogMeIn Hamachi 2.1.0.159
Pros
Simple, easy to set up, easy to use. Can password networks and toggle manual approval for new joining members.
Cons
Speeds aren't that impressive for gaming, but it's one of the few free options. That said, 'free' is used loosely here, and possibly not for long. Networks used to be fully free before they were cut down to a max of 8 members for free. Recently cut to merely 5 members in a network.
Summary
The recent cutback in network size is very hampering, and screams nothing but "money-hungry". In the past, the lag and connection problems were minimal and often bearable.
Now I can no longer in good conscience recommend (or even mention) Hamachi for LAN party use, as it is likely not even qualified for most LAN party sizes.
Old Hamachi with unrestricted network sizes would have been 3.5 or even 4.0 stars from me. After the network sizes were cut down to eight maximum, I only found it to be worth a 3.0 star rating. With the new network sizes down to five members, I can't rate it higher than a 2.5 star rating. -
"Best VPN out there!"
Version: LogMeIn Hamachi 2.1.0.159
Pros
Free for up to 8 users in non commercial use.
Easy to set up and use.Cons
Obsolete networks that were created in the past need to be somehow deleted. I have at least 2 older networks with the same name but different ID numbers.
Summary
Excellent product that has been out long enough to be well tested.
