• Paying money for a product that logs your key strokes

  I add extensions to my browsers to prevent key loggers etc. and requested a refund after I read their contract. It's ridiculous to pay for a product that is going to collect your personal information

  Pros

  Powerful firewall, anti-virus and anti-malware package. Interface is clean and efficient to use.

  Cons

  I've used this for years but have been forced to other solutions. It just doesn't work with Yosemite and when my MacBook Pro sleeps it crashes the system. When I try to power it on it hangs on the gray boot screen. Only way to boot my Mac is to restart in safe mode and uninstall Intego. I've tried everything like just installing anti-virus and it doesn't matter. Worse yet Intego has not responded to support requests. Their license model is annoying if you have multiple machines because it is hard to keep track of licenses.

  Summary

  This was a great product but I can't recommend it. Lack of support, stability issues with Yosemite and price has moved me to look for other options out there.

  no option to pause scan; slows down operation while scanning lousy support: no online chat, phone support only from Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm

• Slows Down My Mac and Price

  Nice easy interface.

  It crashes a lot when scanning and my macbook pro which is new. Resource Hog Way too expensive! Go with AVG it is free

  Summary

  It was taking up so many resources I ended up just uninstalling it. For the cost there are much better alternatives out there. I ended up going with AVG which was free and have no problems at all. It even detected a windows virus that Intego missed.

  Light on system resources Fast scans - completed full system scan 1 hour faster than Avast Like the 2 way firewall as well

• Corrupted my OSX Mavericks

  Worked fine for 10 months.

  Cons

  Then disaster struck. A little explanation required. I had a problem with my 1 year old custom built iMac. I took it to the Apple Store. They damaged it and gave me a brand new iMac with more memory. They installed my data onto the new computer, and everything seemed fine. However, when performing my daily quick scan, the scanning froze, along with the rest of the computer. I had to force quit it and then it wouldn't start up. I almost had to take it back to the Apple Store, because the advisors could not get Mavericks to reinstall. Finally, after a couple of hours, I got a senior advisor and managed to get it reinstalled. Next day, same thing. I went right to the senior advisor and we got it reinstalled, faster this time. I uninstalled Virus Barrier and no more problem.

  Summary

  I downloaded and installed a new, hopefully, uncorrupted Virus Barrier, but turned off the automatic scanning. I'll keep my fingers crossed and see if the problem is solved. The senior advisor told me that because this type of software is always on, to protect against viruses and malware, and goes into all computer's systems, that this sort of thing can happen. Let's hope it doesn't happen to you, or to me, again.

  Compared to X6... NONE! Really messed up the system after the download!

  Cons

  VB 2013 made for the computer user that needs a program which needs minimal configuration. VB2013 has no personal INFORMATION PROTECTION that was part version X6. VB 2013 has no outright product strength. During the upgrade download, it really messed up the system after following the download instructions on their website. Customer service sucks. ie: Filled out a complaint form and someone will contact you! NEVER HAPPENED! Email rec'd listed a phone # to call, no one ever answered... (please leave your name and phone # and some will return your call!) again no return calls!.

  Summary

  Look to a Company that has online assistance! A reputable customer service center. Intego has neither!

• It is fine in 10.6.8. What's with the 1-star reviews?

  Pros

  It is fast. On the home disk, at least, it has a quick scan option, which was fast. It works - so far, though it hasn't found any infected files - yet. I'm running 10.6.8 on a 2011-era iMac.

  Cons

  None yet. Bought it awhile ago but just started using it today. If I encounter problems later, I'll post a flaming review...

  Summary

  I don't work for Intego. Couldn't care less. But this 'it kills 10.6.8' posts - well, maybe it did for them, but it has been fine for me. It just works. I miss the overcomplicated 'submarine-like' interface. The new one is boring. But it works and is minimalist (in the apple way). Wish they had an option to bring back a less boring window. But kudos to the developers in the initial splash/startup screen after you install. You get a window that points out all of the key features; you click once, and it is gone forever. Very nicely done.

• Excellent Antivirus for Macbook Air

  Pros

  Easy to install. Light footprint on my new Macbook Air. Clean user interface. Definitely a set up and forget about it type of antivirus. Protects me from Mac malware, Windows malware, Linux malware, malicious scripts, hacking tools, keyloggers. Includes option for behavioral analysis that "dynamically inspects running applications and warns you when inappropriate behavior is detected." Also scans archives, emails, iPhone, iPod and iPad for malware.

  Cons

  If you like tinkering with different tools and av options, after configuring preferences and turning on real-time scanning there isn't much else to play around with.

  Summary

  I recently switched from using Windows to a Mac. My Windows XP computer finally died on me but I've always enjoyed using my iPhone and iPad so I opted to go for the MacBook Air (so I can sync everything together). Problem is it only seemed like a natural shift from Windows to Mac since I have the iphone but I'm still sort of a newbie to OSX. On my old Windows desktop I used to run Norton or Spyware Doctor (for anti-spyware). But after looking into the differences between Windows and Mac internet threats I found that Windows software might not be the best option for use on my Mac. (From what I understand Macs can't get Windows malware. but I could be wrong?) Anyways after researching more I found Intego and installed the trial for their Mac Internet Security with VirusBarrier 2013, which is compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 and what I needed. I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed! It runs very light in the background, and I can even work on other stuff while it's scanning. I like the user interface especially, basically from set up to scan it is way easy to use. So after almost two months using it I'm definitely open to recommending virus barrier 2013 to others -- it is an excellent product!
