IconPackager offers a way for users to spice up a computer by replacing Windows' standard icons with one of its icon packages.
IconPackager has an extremely simple interface with tabs at the top of the screen. The tabs simplify the process, letting you see what changes will be made to your icons and specify your preferences. It's easy to choose a set of icons (called packages) and users can check out the Look & Feel tab for a glance at the selected icon package's design. There's more detail in the Icons & Cursors tab, which lets you cycle through every icon that will be changed. Here you can alter individual looks if a package doesn't provide the icon you were aiming for. The Settings tab lets users tweak the program's performance and dial in a perfect set of icons. Below this is a large display of the standard Windows icons along with options to change individual icons and in a box below are the various package choices featuring the different looks you can apply.
This 30-day trial is a great option for users looking to customize their computer's icons. While it only comes with a few icon packages, the designers claim more can be downloaded once you purchase the program. Regardless, we highly recommend IconPackager for anyone looking to add something new to their icons.
Publisher's description
From Stardock :IconPackager is a desktop-enhancement utility that lets you change all the common icons used by Windows at once by applying "packages" of icons to them. You can download these packages at Web sites such as WinCustomize.com or create your own by replacing the icons of individual items on your computer one by one, then saving them as an icon package. It's very easy to use and has thousands of icons available in packages on the Net.

Version: IconPackager 4.2
"Steep learning curve, memory hog"
Pros: It does do what it says, but only after you've spent tons of time on it.
Cons: Takes forever to learn and set up in any useful way. Hogs a lot of memory and CPU cycles (but it seems all Stardock software does this lately). You have to pay for this to get anything useful at all.
Summary: Why would anyone pay 20 bucks to do something you can do for free? Add to that how long it takes to set up and tweak to get the way you want it, and the memory and CPU cycles it hogs...this is a horrible piece of software.

Version: IconPackager 4.2
"Non-intuitive--But gets the job done"
Pros: Functional
Cons: Non-intuitive
Summary: If you're in Vista, which doesn't let you change the icon associated with any file to the icon you want to or need to use, then you'll find this application very useful. Once you've installed this app, just right click on the file (and by extension ... read more >>

Version: IconPackager 4.2
"Easy way to customise your desktop"
Pros: Nice and simple. Download - load icon set - click - it's done.
Cons: Well, you have to pay after the trial period; but if you like to change icons a lot, why not?
Summary: I wanted to refresh my desktop a little, and after installing a new theme the icons looked a little...dated? Iconpackager solved this in moments, along with a free icon download (thank you Vishal). Good software if this is what you want to do. I'm v... read more >>
