This program provides a potentially decent set of tools for obscuring your computer activities, but performance issues keep us from getting too excited. Whether or not you consider this program free depends on your definition of the word. Basically, History Cleaner Free Version is a watered-down iteration of the developer's paid product and disables many advanced features, including the file shredder and the scheduler. Annoyingly enough, the application redirects your Web browser to the developer's site every time you try to access a prohibited feature. Still, the app can wipe away your surfing traces from Opera, Netscape, and Internet Explorer. Sadly, when we tested History Cleaner Free Version with that last browser, it didn't manage to remove a single item, leaving our surfing traces totally intact. It's also a shame the app won't delete your usage history from third-party apps such as IM and P2P clients. Due to its limited abilities, this program is only suitable for the most basic privacy chores.
