Pros
You can access some popular websites that are blocked in China, like Facebook, Youtube etc.
Cons
The user must take into consideration that the Falungong is dodgy at best and is a clear cut cult supported by money from the NED. The NED is basically set up to destabilize governments perceived to be threat or rival to the USA. For example the NEd support movements hostile to China, Iran and Venezuela, but turns a blind eye to human rights abusers like Saudi Arabia.
Summary
If you are addicted to Facebook, then download. Otherwise, given the reputation of the Falungong, I wouldn't touch it. You'd never know what they will do with the info they get from you when you install and use it.

Advertising for Shen Yun (musical theatre group whose proceeds support the Falun Gong) are very prominent in banners for FreeGate.
Look it's fine to support what ever group you want. But if you are going to make software that people will be accessing bank information, personal email, and more and running all data through your proxies... then at least be transparent enough to tell people who you are....Summary
I would just like to see the group (Falun Gong) admit that they are behind FreeGate. Then people can make an educated choice around using the software and passing their private data through the Falun Gong's servers/proxies.

I downloaded the Chinese version 7.06 from the developer website, installed on my USB and it works very well, either during my staying in mainland China or at home, without any problems. My machine running english XP SP3.
ps: don't understand why the english version still 6.08 -
