CNET Editors' review
Anyone who spends a lot of time on the computer, either for business or pleasure, knows that hours of staring at a screen can take its toll on the eyes. Eyes Relax is a basic program that forces users to take periodic breaks to rest their eyes. Its features and ease of use make it a good choice.
The program's interface is plain and intuitive, with its features arranged in four tabs. Users can schedule both long and short breaks, specifying the duration of both the work time and break time. When it's time for a break, users have several options: the program can display a small dialog box advising users that it's break time, or the program can display a blank screen, a particular image, or a slideshow. Users can optionally set up password protection for the break time, and Eyes Relax lets users choose whether they'll be able to skip break times if they're in the middle of something they don't want to interrupt. The program has audio alerts that play in advance of a break, when a break starts, and when a break ends; all of these can be set to custom sounds or disabled. Users can even create separate profiles for different users or tasks. Eyes Relax has no Help file, but there was nothing about the program that we really had questions about. Overall, we think Eyes Relax is a nice way to ensure that your eyes get the rest they need during long hours at the computer.
Eyes Relax is free. The program installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.
Publisher's Description
From The Mech:
Eyes Relax is an utility that helps avoiding eyes-related problems when working at a computer for several hours. Concentrating your eyesight on a computer screen can cause an eye strain. You can prevent this by taking regular breaks during the work and look at distant objects.
Eyes Relax is a tool that reminds you about taking those breaks. It a very flexible utility, which allows you to specify two independent (short and long) work periods, the length of the breaks, break types, notification sounds and many other settings. Eyes Relax has also the parenting features. It can enter the password-protected Parent Mode in which the user is forced to take breaks (during the break the computer is locked). This is very useful since children often forget about the real world and play video games much too long.
What's new in this version: Version 0.86 notification dialogs can be moved around the screen and tray icon can display a progress bar measuring the work time.
