• It worked first time

  Pros

  Small program that actually synced my clock. Atomic Clock Sync simply used Windows clock sync software to sync up. The problem was that was not working. Thats why I downloaded Atomic Clock Sync! Well this software actually worked!

  When I turned on my new computer and saw the clock way off I wanted to properly sync it to show the correct time. After several attempts in windows I gave up and downloaded atomic clock sync which did not work. This tiny little program runs nice and easy and synced me right up. Just what I wanted it to do! Now my bogus little clock is set correctly!

  Pros

  Can sync every hour. Uses multiple NTP servers until it finds one that works. Writes a log file.

  Cons

  Uses 4MB of system memory. No icon on taskbar. Syncs to 1 second resolution.

  The first thing this alleged NTP client does when synchronizing is try to PING the ntp server. Hello!! ICMP PING is almost useless nowadays as a test of connectivity because so many ISPs block all ICMP traffic to prevent abuse from well-known DoS attacks. A shame, but there you go. An NTP client has no business attempting to use PING to determine if an NTP server is responding. If the PING fails, the program does not even try to set the time!

  On one computer, unzipping the app produced a tray icon. On the oher coimnputer, the try icon was non-functional and cannot be deleted. One size, small, slow to update, hard to read if old or visually imparied. Not as good as the competition.

  When the program started to give me a pop-up for each of the servers I wanted to delete, it was game over already, forget the minmal design, no uninstaller, blocking during syncs..

  I loaded and ran the program. It ran very slowly, taking 45 to 60 seconds to update the time. I am running XP with a cable modem - don't know if this is an XP problem, but my connection speed is fine.

  I used Atomic Clock before but got annoyed very badly by the infinite message boxes coming up when there's no internet conn available. So I tried this one. Stays in the tray, does time checks on its own, you can add or remove time servers, no annoying boxes. Cool for a DSL-server.
