Editors' review

There are many programs, both free and paid, that can be used to manage files for CDs, DVDs, and data discs. Express Burn for Mac, while functional, may not justify the price required for the full version.

Express Burn for Mac is available as a free trial version with an upgrade for $69.95. The limitations on the trial version aren't apparent from either the program itself or the developer's Web site. The download was fairly quick, but the installation required careful attention to avoid downloading additional, nonadvertised programs set to be downloaded by default. These included a toolbar and sound-mixing program sponsored by the same company. These additional programs were free, but also could be upgraded for a price. This, combined with the extensive license agreement, would be a problem for beginning computer users. Once installed, the interface appeared dated, but the necessary controls were prominent and easy to recognize. You can use the program to create and burn a new disc, copy an existing disc, or burn DVDs and even Blu-rays. Overall, almost any level of computer user could operate the program, despite the lack of formal instructions. The program advertises faster burning speed, though this was not readily apparent compared with programs like iTunes during testing.

While the program performs its functions well and burns discs quickly, only those who heavily use burning software will benefit enough from the promised faster speed to justify Express Burn for Mac's price.

    "High Quality Burner"

Version: Express Burn Free CD Burning 4.64

To me, this is a great product. It does everything I need it to, it's lightweight, and overall it gets the job done. The free version is excellent and if you buy the pro version you won't ever need another product again.

Nothing much to say, except the interface could use some modernization.

"Express Burn Trail and Full version"

    December 21, 2013   |   By jjtodd111

Version: Express Burn Free CD Burning 4.64

Not the best software, but i guess not the worst. I am using a Apple Superdrive with the full version of Express Burn Software sold by NCH Software, Inc.

Selected the option to burn a "audio file" CD, the one that allows CDR to be played on home stereo CD player, or in your car stereo unit. Software was unable to accomplish this task. I received multiple error messages. I paid a discount rate of $39.95 for full version of Express Burn that does not perform the most import task aforementioned, I attempted to contact customer support for them to fix this issue and if it could not be fixed obviously i would want my money back. Well in order to get Customer Technical Support their site states you can't get live customer support without opting in to their Customer Technical Support Plan which is $14.95 Now I'll be dammed if i will pay additional money to buy a tech support plan when the software already has issues. What if i pay the $14.95 and they can't fix the issue? This has been a horrible experience and if your looking to burn audio cdr's as aforementioned, I suggest you steer clear, and buy a Burn Software from a different company.

I don't like the fact of NCH Software, Inc., (aka Express Burn) pushing a customer into buying a Tech Support Package for $14.95, when issues arise with their software packages they sell. I am wondering if they have setup their Express Burn software purposely to ensure that these errors arise, to push customers into spending more money, by encouraging buyers to purchase their $14.95 Tech Support Plan when a customers experience problems with their software. Honestly, i don't know if there doing this. However, i feel reasonable is, if i pay you money for a product, and their are issues i am experiencing with that product, i should be able to get a Tech Support person on the phone to talk about the issue to see if they can be resolved, I should not have to pay $14.95 to get Tech Support Service on a product that is not doing what it suppose to do from the moment i received it.
