"Only the "update", and loaded with malware"
Version: EOS Utility 2.8.1
Pros
Avoid at all costs. If you just need the update, get it from Canon. If you need the full version, look elsewhere.
THIS WON'T WORK WITHOUT AN EARLIER VERSIONCons
Doesn't work
Summary
I expected better from CNET, instead I get a worthless file that's available off of the Canon website WITHOUT the ton of malware that CNET's trying to shove down my throat.

"Includes Malware and only the update"

Cons
malware, same updater software you can safetly download on canons site
-
"It's not the utility - it is just the updater."
Version: EOS Utility 2.8.1
Pros
None. Easier to get this from Canon.
Cons
You need the utility installed.
Summary
Waste of my time. I already had trhe update - I need the utility as I'm not at home and the CDs are.

"Works well for tethering, but not with RF Remote."
Version: EOS Utility 2.8.1
Pros
Easy to install (yes, with previous version installed). Worked flawlessly with my Canon 40D using live view. Easy to setup the utility to handle files.
Cons
Will not work with RF Remote Shutter release, apparently the EOS utility overrides the RF.
Summary
This is what I use for shooting tethered, it works great. BUT, when I tried to use it with the RF Remote, it would not work. I ended up having to use the video cable to a TV using live view to accomplish that. I would like to have been able to choose to use the EOS shutter release button or antoher shutter release method, but apparently that is not an option.

"really useful"
Version: EOS Utility 2.8.1
Pros
It works! I had struggled with tethering my canon camera to my laptop. Despite numerous attempts to download working progs from canon site and losing hope - this came up trumps. Not only that, but it was free.
Cons
I had to rid my laptop of a few similar canon downloads and reinstall others. More space on a filling hard drive!
Summary
Thanks, really useful.

Version: EOS Utility 2.8.1
