Publisher's description
From Runtime Software :DriveImage XML is an easy to use and reliable program for imaging and backing up partitions and logical drives. The program allows you to backup logical drives and partitions to image files, browse these images, view and extract files, restore these images to the same or a different drive, copy directly from drive to drive. Image creation uses Microsoft's Volume Shadow Services (VSS), allowing you to create safe "hot images" even from drives currently in use. Images are stored in XML files, allowing you to process them with 3rd party tools, so you'll never again be stuck with a useless backup. Restore images to drives without having to reboot. DriveImage XML also runs from a WinPE boot CD-ROM.

Version: DriveImage XML 2.13
Pros: Performed backup easily
Cons: Recovery is a chore with free version.
Summary: The cost of the product drove me from trying the full version. Experimenting with the free version drove me from considering purchasing the product. The backup was simple, but the recovery was a nightmare.

Version: DriveImage XML 2.13
"Great Tool - Saved me lots of time recovering systems"
Pros: Makes an image of a running system drive. Can restore to a drive that is larger. Don't have to reinstall apps or OS we your system drive fails. Works with XP and Vista. Compresses backup image and only saves valid NTFS files.
Cons: If a drive has any CRC errors, it won't back it up. Had to use a western digital drive cloning tool to copy a 2.5" laptop drive. Tried chkdsk to remove CRC read errors but could get past the errors.
Summary: Powerful and free for home use.
