• Like a Swiss Army Knife for drive maintenance

  Pros

  Quickly navigate directory structure to asess releative sizes, searches and compares files looking for duplicates, plus a wide variety of tools that help in different ways (privacy tools, search for temp files and data dumps, etc). I work in animation and often have to manage large directories of render tests, source footage, film plates, etc. Sometimes it gets hard to find where all the disk space went, which specific shots are filling drives. Windows doesn't show you size of a directory and all subdirs, but with DiskState it's quick, easy and accurate. Plus, although I bought it over five years ago, program updates have kept this a rock-solid application that doesn't choke on large drives full of data.

  Cons

  Takes a while to initially scan a drive (not the program's fault, but I wish there was a quicker way). I think the way to perform duplicate file searches could be a little clearer and made easier to flag which files to keep/delete, as well as how to automatically ignore specific file types within specific areas (such as browser caches, TMP files for specific programs, etc). These are little gripes compared to the overwhelming benefit I've gotten from using it.

  Pros

  Has quite a few useful features. I have quite a few drives, and this prgoram has been a godesend. <p> <p>It finds duplicate files, gnerates reports on disk usage, graphical picture of the drives (program taking up space, etc) Also has cleaning options (cookies, temp files, etc)

  Cons

  At a price of 39.00 or so, I persoannly feel that the purchase was worth every penny. <p> <p>Maybe if one only has one or two drives, it may be overkill. <p> <p>So, the only con that I see, is maybe the price.

• A slick and very useful small utility

  Pros

  It comes in handy when you are running out of space on any of your partition. <p> <p>It helps me identify the files that are hogging my disk. <p> <p>Just click on the partition which you want to clean up, and it will list all the folders in decreasing order of the space consumed by each folder (and the files within it). <p> <p>The latest version has added some privacy stuff, like clearing your cookies, deleting history etc. And also an Add/Remove + File comparison. <p> <p>All in all DiskState is simple and does its task pretty well.

  Cons

  It's a heavy on the memory/RAM. <p> <p>Doesn't refresh the Folders view by itself if you delete some files off that partition. One has to do it manually. <p> <p>And it's not free (which is not such a con, but still).
