Data recovery is tedious, but this software simplifies much of the process. NTFS Data Recovery's interface isn't much--a few radio buttons and an information window. Advanced users will appreciate the "just the facts" approach. Select the problem drive, and basic drive information is immediately displayed. If the drive model and size match your expectations, one click takes you to the heart of this application. The secondary interface details the steps NTFS Data Recovery takes to ferret out files from your crashed hard drive. We found that the program discovered the folder and file structure faster than many similar programs. If you can't find the expected files, the utility includes another method to scan the drive. However, we found the first scan usually did the job. Found files and folders are logically arranged in a simple spreadsheet format. You can quickly reorder by name, size, or date. Unfortunately, saving any found data is disabled in this demoware. However, saving scan information for later recovery is a simple menu selection. Extra features include simple cloning and imaging, but both are available for registered users only. Administrators and advanced users will appreciate the simple operation and excellent results of this software.

"Scam. Avoid this product and company."

April 27, 2012  |  By rctapp

 |  Version: Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery 2.0.1

Pros

The TRIAL version actually finds your lost and deleted programs. "Right on," I said to myself moments before purchasing for $179.00. Steep price, I thought, but would be well worth it if it did what it seemed to promise..

Cons

Alas, the ACTUAL version doesn't do anything at all, except take up about 2 hours scanning the computer. Not a single file ACTUALLY emerged from the data. My efforts to contact the company (3 phone calls -- two of which got a generic "The party you are trying to reach is not available..", and the third an actual message machine from their company -- and 3 emails) elicited no response. After a few days I contacted PayPal to file a claim -- and the company hasn't contacted PayPal back a week later at this point. Though someone from their service department -- a "John Smith", as it turns out -- did email me and ask what the problem was. Responding immediately to him, I have yet to hear back 5 days later. AVOID this product.

Summary

A scam. Any good reviews on this list are generated by the "company". At least it didn't introduce any malware, as far as I can tell..

"Initially disappointed in Disk Doctor"

April 11, 2012  |  By Monsteruser

 |  Version: Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery 2.0.1

Pros

Appears to find the lost files, based on the demo version scan

Cons

Confusing product website results in a poor customer experience and extra expense.

Summary

Disclaimer: This review is based upon my initial experience with this software and company. I will update my ranking based upon whether my issues get resolved satisfactorily.
I am currently trying to recover data from a failed micro-SD card from my wife's phone. Of course she has not backed up the phone's data for about 6 years (2 phones in that time), so all of the pictures and videos she has taken are potentially lost. I have tried various recovery programs to get to her files with no real luck, until I tried NTFS Data Recovery. The "File Tracer" tool within the software scanned her card and found 2,900+ files but, of course, the demo version would not recover them. Happy to have received encouraging results from the scan I went to the website and found that there is an "Instant File Recovery" product which, from the description, sounds like the same tool as the "File Tracer" option within the Data Recovery product. Upon this optimistic assumption I purchased the File Recovery product for $59, only to be disappointed that it did not scan as deeply as the Data Recovery product and would not find the missing files. Back to the website I purchased the "full" version of the NTFS Data Recovery for $99, only to find that it DOES NOT include the File Tracer tool. More specifically, the option is there but all I get is a message that it is only available in the enterprise/expert versions (this is also true for other options in the utility). These licenses are sold as separate products, but I cannot find a means to upgrade from the "end user" version to "enterprise" - a $20 difference. I am waiting to hear back from their customer service regarding this. My 2-star rating is based upon the promise that the product will do what is needed (based on the demo), but right now I feel misled about the features available in the full-priced versions.

"Poor Software and Service"

March 21, 2011  |  By 024082

 |  Version: Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery 2.0.1

Pros

No Pros At All.

Cons

Linux Software failed to retain file attributes during recovery and, thus, did not recover anything but a zero byte file name. Tech support provided no direction. 4 months after creating a support ticket, the ticket remains open and unanswered.

Summary

Buyer beware! You money would be better spent with another solution. Search elsewhere.
