Data recovery is tedious, but this software simplifies much of the process. NTFS Data Recovery's interface isn't much--a few radio buttons and an information window. Advanced users will appreciate the "just the facts" approach. Select the problem drive, and basic drive information is immediately displayed. If the drive model and size match your expectations, one click takes you to the heart of this application. The secondary interface details the steps NTFS Data Recovery takes to ferret out files from your crashed hard drive. We found that the program discovered the folder and file structure faster than many similar programs. If you can't find the expected files, the utility includes another method to scan the drive. However, we found the first scan usually did the job. Found files and folders are logically arranged in a simple spreadsheet format. You can quickly reorder by name, size, or date. Unfortunately, saving any found data is disabled in this demoware. However, saving scan information for later recovery is a simple menu selection. Extra features include simple cloning and imaging, but both are available for registered users only. Administrators and advanced users will appreciate the simple operation and excellent results of this software.Publisher's description

Version: Disk Doctors NTFS Data Recovery 2.0.1
"Good Software, but expensive"
Pros: Windows Disk management didn't recognize my sata drive. However, I can see all my files in disk doctor, but I can't save a single file. Since it is demo version file retrieval or save doesn't work, so I can't comment on that.
Cons: Software is very expensive. Should offer user to try every feature of the software for a few days.
Summary: I used linux live CD and retrieved all the files from my sata drive. You can use Easeus diskcopy(free) to retrieve various file format to another pata/sata drive. It is although a bit of work, but once in a great while I can deal with it
